A fresher gone like that, if she had known her life would end like this she would have remained at home. I also blame the students living in that hostel for not speaking out. How will they be paying 200k in that dirty looking hostel knowing fully well their lives are at risk?

It's obvious Heritage fell a victim because she hasn't gotten used to how the old students maneuver their way around the death trap septic tank......RIP to her.

Just terrible. Someone I know went to refuel in a petrol station and stepped out to urinate but unknown to him that the septic tank was already weak.

Guess what??

It collapsed and he fell into the septic tank and died. Someone else drive home his car after a call was put out through his phone left inside the car.

Dying in a septic tank is very unfortunate. The Students Union should shut down that hostel. This is most irresponsible.

Too bad! Why on earth will a hostel where it's management collect as much as 200k per bed space, allow such a horrible incident to waste life of a precious young lady, because of maintenance that wouldn't cost them up to 8k regardless of whatever will be needed.

Dear Readers,
I am sharing this story with you because I believe it is of great importance. Although this is very painful for me, I am willing to share this with my fellow Nigerians to prevent this from happening to anyone else.

On the 6th of February 2022, I came across a Facebook post from an account named 'Ememakpan Sea Foods And Palm Oil. The post was an advertisement of various food goods being sold and delivered at reduced prices and it was made on a cooking group that I am a member of.

I called the contact number written on the advert and the phone was answered by a woman, who introduced herself as Amanda Emem Akpan.
I told her that I am want to purchase four 25 litre kegs of palm oil at the stipulated price of ₦16,000 each, I also told her that I live in Abuja and she told me that she would transport the goods to me at an additional price of ₦3,000, putting the total amount at ₦ 67,000.

Before I made the transfer, I told her to send me additional information about herself and her business on WhatsApp, which she responded to by sending me a picture of her CAC certificate (which is fake)of Amanda Palm Oil Ventures, and videos of the palm oil which she sells and she told me that the business was located NO. 5 New Police Barracks Road, Opposite Flower Hotel, Oron, Akwa Ibom. Her face was not included in any of the pictures and videos she sent to me.

I then made the payment to her, and she promised to send me the receipt, which she never did.

After I made the payment, whenever I tried to call her, her phone would be switched off, I found this odd and decided to conduct a little research on her supposed business.

Immediately I typed her name online, a post came up that a woman had made on the social forum NAIRALAND, claiming that she had been scammed by a woman named Amanda Emem Akpan.
I searched the CAC search Engine for her business name, and I found no business with the name registered there.
It was then that It dawned on me that I had been scammed.

I also came across other posts on Facebook from people claiming she also scammed them, with one woman claiming she was swindled of ₦80,000.
I went to the comments sections of her Facebook account and informed people that she is a fraud who should not be trusted.

The next day I tried to call her and the phone was picked up by a man who began insulting me and threatening me to take down the comments I made on Facebook or he would kill me with juju. I decided to reach her on Facebook to tell her to pay me my money back, this time the person replying not on insulted me, but also informed me that the account I sent the money to is a wallet account and therefore is non- trackable.

Further contact with her proved futile, as she stopped picking my calls.

I also discovered that she has a number of various account on Facebook and Instagram, which she claims to sell different goods on.

One wonders what is then great about OAU?You collect huge sum of money from students yet your service delivery is not commensurate with the fees paid.There's so much rot in the public education in Nigeria and that is why the private sector is cashing in on that through outrageous fees .That is many private educational institutions offer paltry sum to graduates irrespective of the their educational qualifications.A star,a future mother and pride of her parents has ended up her life in her prime for needless and unnecessary danger that would've been forestalled.

For those of you blaming the school, the reason why the school cannot priovide decent accomodation is simple.

Accommodation fees are N3000. That's about 6 dollars. Let that sink in. Rent of 6 dollars for a year....Also, fees are around 50000 naira, or 100 dollars a year.

At the end, universities don't have enough money to build new hostels, maintain new hostels, etc. Unless some rich guy comes in and builds a new hostel, which does not happen regularly.

Suggesting that universites should increase fees would lead to cries of poverty. Well, that's the harsh fact. University eats money.

Private hostels end up being the only alternative.

A 100-level student of the Department of Linguistics and African Studies, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun state, has died after she accidentally fell into a septic tank in her hostel on Wednesday February 9, Reports.

From The Information Gathered By , Heritage was said to be packing her clothes that she had washed earlier when she suddenly slipped into the septic tank in the hostel where students are allegedly asked to pay as much as N200,000 for a bed space.

Confirming Her Death to , the University's Students’ Union president, Ogunperi Taofeek Olalekan, in a statement released, said

''Heritage Ajibola, the Linguistics and African Languages student who accidentally fell into the soakaway this afternoon at Bver Hostel, Maintenance Hostels, is confirmed dead!

This incident is highly unfortunate. The Union mourns her. May her soul rest in peace. May God give her family, friends and course mates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

It must be noted that Heritage's death was avoidable if the soakaway system was properly constructed and covered. It is saddening that this has happened despite the huge amounts of money paid by students for rent. The Management of the Hostel must answer for the death of Heritage. The Union is immediately demanding justice for Heritage, with a view to forestalling a possible reoccurrence of this.

One of the SUG excos told Online Source, that the Vice-Chancellor of the school visited the scene of the incident this evening and promised to ensure that necessary actions are taken.

The school authority is yet to release an official statement on the incident.

Meanwhile, students of the school have taken to social media to react to the unfortunate incident. They called for sanctions to be taken against the management of the hostel where the incident happened.
