NDIGBO and our cousins from the Eastern region are the only people that resisted slavery even to the extent of taking over slave ships, leading revolts and even taking over slave countries from the whites eg Haiti. The first king of Haiti that led the slave revolt that finally established the independence of Haiti Henri Christopher is of Igbo descent. That is why Igbo slaves were costly. They were very difficult to get and subdue.

But the Yorubas on the other hand are very docile, put up no resistance at all and are willing slaves, so their price went so low that slave traders have to clarify what they have to avoid someone suing them for fraud.
Yoruba Slaves were literally worthless, so they have to be sold in tens.

Here is the portrait of the first king of Haiti, an Igbo blood to the core that led the slave revolt that established the independence of Haiti. Henri Christophe

Even at the worst of our various histories, nobody confused the high quality of Ndigbo to worthless Yorubas.

Having Igbo as slave was seen as a thing of pride for the whites. Just like the way Arabs see owning lions or modern society owning sports cars like lamborghini, buggatti etc.

That's why the bill specified them as "choice" so that they don't come to price shit as if you are buying Yoruba or other ordinary black people

Choice means preferences. That is, they were specifying that what they have with them is the real deal. The most sort after and costly Igbo, not Yorubas that worth nothing.
But I thought you were denying ibos were not sold off as slaves.. Lol.

They selected young iboe women that could endure marathon sex and young ibo men who were not plagued with kwashiorkor that could survive the hard labor on plantation farms.

Costliest and symbol of pride for them.
Even at my worst, I was never in the same category with you worthless Yorubas

All nations have all gone through that stage including British, Arabs, Jews and Han Chinese but the worth of each at the time is what differentiates.

Trying to twist the narrative? No, Afonja, there is no skirt to hide under here.
It was "choice" not "best" and the history of the trade stated why.
Every human wants to be seen as conqueror and you can't prove it by presenting a submissive like Yoruba Slaves as trophy that is why Igbo was choice and very costly.

They were extremely difficult to get and IMPOSSIBLE to tame. The revolts and resistances that followed suit justifies their worth.

They said that no slave ship was stupid enough to carry only captured Igbo during slave trade. But for Yorubas? Even old white women can transport Yoruba Slaves

Britain was raided and enslaved by the vikings. The British proved their worth by resistance and defeating vikings at Wessex

Han Chinese was enslaved by Mongols, they proved their worth by the resistance, overthrowing mongol emperor and today are world powers

Arabs were enslaved by Abysinnians and Persians in Yemen and saudi Arabia, they later proved their worth by resistance, counter enslavement of other blacks and finally conquering the entire Persian empire.

Ndigbo fell to British slave trade but proved their worth in series of resistances, even took over Haiti from France and today are resisting British Nigeria for total freedom (Biafra).

Yorubas on the contrary are just docile, everybody took turns subduing them, no history of resistance in both trans Saharan and Atlantic that they fell victim of in the hands of Nupe, Fulani, Hausa and Fon of Dahomey. Yorubas are the majority of slaves shipped to Brazil but the Portuguese recorded no resistance from them till date. They are just naturally submissive. Their kins in Nigeria are celebrating of how inclusive and recognise their slave generations in Brazil are not revolts or resistance for dignity

Hahaha. this can never be Ijebu. And Ijebu is not Lagos.

Go to Ijebu, go and see Chief Adeola Odutola colonial majestic castle like building still standing and well maintained till date.

Two things you can not associate with the Yoruba; unclothedness and Cannibalism.

Yoruba don't have a history of walking naked and cannibalism.

And here is why; the Yoruba have centuries old cloth weaving technology called Ofi or Asooke and the yoruba have always had food in abundance because there is abundance of water bodies and land. That is why the Yoruba are not land locked and barren.

Those two are never part of Yoruba culture.

JEBU not IJEBU

First Anglican Church in Nigeria is St.Stephens in Ibani territory of Bonny before Opobo left Bonny to Opobo.

Say in your area. Saint Andrew's College ,now Aja Crowder University, Oyo Town, owned by The Anglican Church, was founded in 1876. And long before that time Anglican primary schools had been flourishing in Oyo Town and entire Yorubaland.

And as for Cannibalism.. Pls you can't change the narratives. You guys are genetically flesh eaters from prehistory.

But current statistics clearly shows that yoruba land is the undisputed headquarters of ritual human killings in nigeria if not the whole africa? During the endsars protests the whole world saw how some yoruba people were arrested after they killed and ate the bodies of some police men in ibadan.

We've a lot of "achievements" from the past from both sides. However, never delude yourself to think you are better than the other guy because you're of Yoruba or Igbo descent.
The child of a slave,Samuel Ajayi Crowther, translated the Bible into Yoruba language and created the template for the translation of the Igbo Bible. I wonder the noise about slavery

It is utter foolishness to just hate/derogate someone simply because he's from another tribe.

I have heard igbos tag Yoruba people dirty but don't we have Igbo people who are dirty?
Many Yoruba kids have been brainwashed that igbos wake their parents with "flying tackles" and many grow up with that warped mentality. Are we saying we don't have rude Yoruba kids?

Many of these stereotypes are incorrect.

I know of people who harbour such nonsense even as Pastors...imagine what these would counsel when A Yoruba girl who wants to marry an Igbo man come to them?

LOL. It's just one of my once a week specials where I give free history classes in any lucky social media.

One thing aribisala0 don't know is that IPOB's Biafra agitation is recorded in history as the continuation of Igbo resistance to subjugation. Historians see it as the strong will and boldness Ndigbo are known of since the days of their ancestors. Like I said "no slave ship was ever stupid enough to carry only captured Igbo"
One that tried such lost his ship to revolts and the ship was used to sail into another slave ship, wrecking both and everybody died.
Another that did it was overtaken by the Slaves and they sailed to Georgia after failing to locate Igboland. They later committed suicide afterwards by walking back into the water with belief that they will reincarnate in Igboland. It is now famously known worldwide as "Igbo landing"
They chose death over slavery and subjugation.

Can Afonjas do what they did? No. An Afonja values life as a slave to free person that caters for himself and that is what they are doing in Nigeria. They prefer to slave under Nigeria than handle the responsibility of fending for themselves.

After reading Achebe's Things Fall Apart for the umpteenth time and carefully reading through this thread, I must commend Bkayy's comments!

No tribe is superior to another, but I must recognize the dogged spirit of the Ibos. Wherever they are, you can't swindle, oppress and marginalize them.

They are goal oriented, focused and driven with a burning desire to succeed and make impact.
The desire for a Biafran nation surely has it's sore sides, but only the Ibos can muster that kind of courage to stand and quit playing to the gallery all for a tap on the back.
