Help!! Pls, How Do We Retrieve Over 2 Million Stolen From My Uncle By Fraudsters by mcjohny(op): 7:20pm On Feb 12, 2022
Hi, right-thinking Nairalanders.

I think I need urgent help, my uncle asked me to leave whatever i am doing to rush over to his place this afternoon owing an emergency. As I got to his house, he barely replied my greeting only to tell me that he had been defrauded by Yahoo Yahoo boys who withdrew over 2 million naira from his 3 separate accounts with different banks( first bank, zenith and stanbic bank).

He said it all started on Wednesday when he noticed his MTN line kept showing "emergency" consistently, but he barely made out time to check why as he had assumed that it might be a network issue that might be retified overtime.
Fast-foward to this day when he decided to check his email only to discover that ever since Wednesday when his line showed " emergency" that he had been debited of over 2 million which he is unaware of, so I suggested we go to MTN office, only for them to ask us to do sim swap which my uncle vehemently refused to owing to the fact that he wants to know what happened to his line and several withdrawal which he got but the customer service representative said she doesn't know.
she would rather insist that he swap his line instead as if swapping the line will bring back the money..

My question now is please, how would my uncle quickly get back his money stolen from his banks?
Please what steps do we take to resolve this issue

Why not try going to bank first thing on Monday to ascertain the cause of the issue.

Bank will give more clue & you will surely know the genesis of it all

Ur uncle Accounts or BVN has been compromised. He probably clicked some links or unknowingly gave out some of his sensitive info.

All in all, let him visit those banks, but stand his ground that he never do any of what I earlier guess cos they (Banks) would try to convince him to admit it, and should he do, bye bye to his money as Banks wouldn't take the matter serious owning to the fact that, the fraudulent acts was from his end, but should it stand his ground, they could help out, even thou chances of him recovering the money is very slim, the process is even tedious and time consuming, plus he will have to seek the service of a good lawyer to make those Banks cooperate in the recovery.

1. Where did your uncle buy his phone from?
2. Are their Yahoo boys living few meters from your house like they do mine?
3.Are his cards intact
4. Does he use a laptop for transaction with his bank perhaps a phishing attack
5. Is there a Base Station Engineer living close bye.
6. Has he lose his I.D like driver's license ...etc

It is quite rare that 3 bank account would be attack at the same time, not to talk of the network disappearing, especially mtn network that is everywhere you go. Even if the BVN was compromise usually attack is still rested in one bank. So the phone could be the suspect here but like the other Chief advice follow the money trail.

It was a breach of protocol by those who helped me, money was sent from Uk to my mum after several frustration to send.
In a week plus, i got called her by the house help that money got debited and she was never the one. Up to 3.8m.
I was really mad and start making contacts, both in the Bank and Tel. Company, then the clear pictures was gotten, then i involved the right security agents, he was bursted in a hotel.

At the end of the day, 3.8 was recovered back as he got enough from his balance from other victims, but i parted away with almost 300k for job well done. But in sane country, i'm not suppose to pay, but at thesame time, nothing goes for nothing in nigeria.

Please I am in this too. First Bank debited me on the 12th of February too. The description of the transaction was "sportybet" which I never gave anyone my ATM card. Note: the bank didn't send me an OTP to notify me someone is trying to defraud me. I only got a debit message of 5k, 20k, 1k, and 1k respectively.

Some high security men took up the case and that was how they were able to track down those boys.
Some are still in prison

You don't seem to have a problem. But let me ask. Did your uncle receive any call from a stranger and sent an OTP to that number? If yes, sorry is your name.

You can only go through the police route.

But if your uncle didn't do anything but just started recieving debit alerts, then his banks have questions to answer.

This is a case of an unauthorised debits of the funds he kept with his bank, which by banking laws and practices, has become the bank's money. And, consequently, the bank has a duty to answer the question " who took my money"?

So what do you do?

Let him visit his banks and make a formal complaint of unauthorized debits. The banks have questions to answer. If they refuse to answer or try to shift the blame to him, let him get a good lawyer and write to the bank.

If they refuse to furnish satisfactory answers, sue them, let them answer the questions and provide answers in court. Mind you, if your Uncle was complacent by sending an OTP, the bank will know.

Another angle is the possibility that his email account linked to his bank sccount was hacked.

Hence I have always advised that everyone should have a 2FA authentication system on any phone number or email linked to their BVN or bank accounts. It's very key. Extremely important.

Lastly, is the possibility that the same MTN number was issued to two separate persons. Especially if one had abandoned the line for a while and then did welcome back with his/her accurate details.

I had this issue with my Glo line at some point. And this was the reason I discontinued the line. How do you trace this?

Let your uncle switch off his line and call the number religiously from multiple numbers. At first it may not connect. But if you keep trying, it might connect with someone answering the call at some point. And this will explain how that other guy got the OTP that was used to access the account.

Lastly and more importantly, talk to a lawyer that is a specialist in bank fraud and digital investigation. He/she knows how to seeks answers from the banks and the telcos.

Your uncle might end up smiling if the investigation checks out. The banks and telcos will have to pay for their sins..

You are allowed to seek further clarification.. shalom.

MWhen writing the email copy your bank and see them taking action.
I have done it before and it work.

BREAKING INFORMATION:

In case you mistakenly transferred Money to the wrong account and the owner blocked you? or you are duped thru your bank account? and then later realized that you have been scammed or a mistake on your part? And the receiving bank is not cooperating?

HOW TO RETRIEVE YOUR MONEY AFTER YOUR WRONG TRANSFER

Please read carefully and learn.

Many people don't always know what to do, so today am sharing with you things you do when you realize a page you paid for a service or goods is ghosting you:

1. Write out the Full name and account number of the page or person.

2. Go to the last notification your bank sent you after you made the payment (via mobile app or text) and copy out the "TRANSACTION ID NUMBER".

3. Go to any branch of the scam artist's bank (the bank you transferred to), and ask to see the CUSTOMER SERVICE in charge of FRAUD.

While you are there, send an email to SCAMMER'S BANK or the d bank u wrongly paid to and copy CBN FRAUD DESK (anticorruptionunit@cbn.gov.ng) n also cpd@cbn.gov.ng
& contactcbn@cbn.gov.ng, this will ginger the bank to take it up fast.

What should you expect from this? The culprit/suspect's account will be PLACED ON HOLD. His BVN will be blocked permanently. No account will ever be opened nor will he be able to transact banking business in that name until he clears himself with the bank.

Meaning he/she cannot transfer or withdraw until they visit the bank, and when they do, the bank will contact the police, and the suspect when proven guilty will sign a waiver allowing the bank to refund your money.

Do this an thank me later.

Happy new year.
