but the op talked about the rail way which was heavily financed by the Nigerian Government. This bridge didn't really enter Cameron as people are saying.

Note that this bridge leads to Cameroon and would increase trade between Nigeria and the neighboring country.

I remember the noise made over the Railway leading to Niger and how some people ignorantly said it was due to tribe. I guess the people here are also Fulani.
....

You're trying to be intelligent by half..

The rail way will be constructed in niger republic soil,is this bridge in Cameron side or Nigerian side?

theenchanter:

don't get it wrong. Nigerians are not making noise because the rail-line leads to Niger republic but because Nigeria will build/finance the rail-line to Niger republic territory, Maradi.

I believe this bridge u posted ends at the border between Nigeria and Cameroon, unlike the rail-line that extends about 40km into Niger.

The bridge is not even in the border between Nigeria and Cameron. It's Ikom bridge along Calabar/Ikom highway. The Op is either biase or totally ignorant.

Stop trying to act clever because you are not.
The op drew an inference from the rail being constructed into Niger republic and
If not for the financial implications of borrowing to finance the project, nobody would have cared whatever Buhari decides to do in Niger.

Even this Bridge is too small for 2 trailers to cross. Or was it constructed for pedestrians and cyclists?? Cos I don’t understand the fuss about this crap.

Good job!

But I wonder why anyone would compare this bridge with an absolutely Nigerian funded railway between Nigeria and Niger Republic, with minimal evidence of reasonable trade between them.

Haaa.....fear God ooo
1. The railway is not absolutely Nigerian funded...a simple google search will educate you more
2. Theres a huge trade between Nigeria and Niger. Niger is land locked and its only acces to the sea currently is through benin and Nigeria republic and its through road...a railway line will improve trade along that corridor and will be of great benefit to Nigeria and Nigerian businesses.

How much did this "bridge" cost to build?

Can you compare it to the astronomical amount they're spending on that non viable railway that goes into Niger republic?

The revenue from the railway will NEVER repay the cost incurred to build it.

Indebting the nation to build a railway with little or no economic value is foolishness.

Be reasonable.

The Op is trying to please himself...that bridge , all of it is inside Nigeria. After that bridge, there is a road(about 30mins drive) that will lead to the borders of Cameroon of about 2hrs drive before even getting to the Cameroon. The entire bridge is in Nigeria and it's a federal road

Truth of the matter is that that extra 40km into Niger wouldnt have been an issue if the president wasnt chronically tribal. Yes Nigeria is building the railway, but it will be used mainly by Niger to access the seaport in Lagos. Niger will have to pay to use the rail and will have to pay to use the Nigerian seaport (currently I believe they use Cotonou port which is closer by road, but if there's a rail, they will tilt towards Lagos). Economically, there will be benefits to Nigeria for building that 40 km stretch, but I personally wouldn't have prioritised it considering the ethnic nature of Nigeria.

I remember that old bridge

Back in the days. 1993-1998 Lagos to FGC Ikom.

Immediately we approach the bridge as Junior students, reality dawns on all of us. Sadness everywhere. The bridge is just 15mins drive to the school gate.

Pro Unitate.

Yes, the project is a good one by the FMW&H. Please stop missing leading those who does not know the location of this bridge by comparing it to the Rail line from Nigeria to Niger Republic. This bridge is on Ogoja-Ikom-Calabar high way. The bridge that leads to Cameroon is at Mfuma a boarder town between the two countries and it was jointly financed by Nigeria and Cameron Governments. It has been commissioned by Fashola in the absence of his Cameroonian counterpart.

I’m from ikom, that bridge is no where close to Cameroon, rather, from the bridge you get to ikom (4conners) then straight to ogoja.

Boss don't compare this project to that railway.
How many illegal arms come from Cameroon to Nigeria?
This bridge is like 5% of the railway contract to maradi.

I don't think this is comparable.
How much is this bridge compared to the train to Niger? Eg $50m (at most) compared to $3.2billion (Chinese igbese) for the maradi line.
How can you compare both?
If Niger as a landlocked country needs to acess the sea, does it it make sense that they should at worst fund part if not all of the rail line?
Nordstream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany is funded 50% by Gazprom ( a Russian oil company), the balance 50% is funded by the recipients (ie ENGIE, OMV, Shell, Uniper and Wintershall Dea
(European oil companies representing states).
That is how sensible business minded countries with people in power "without personal interest" do things.
You do not plunge a country into heavy debt to fund a project that might not be heavily viable at a time when the country is on its knees financially.
Just watch, at the end of the day, that rail will be to expensive to use due to Nigeria hiking the cost to repay debt and so Niger will still prefer sending their cargo through benin Republic. Unless fgn decides to "subsidize" the train.
NB: I did not say the project is not good. I am saying the packaging could have been done better and at the right time.

This is a bridge that was financed by African development bank.its not even a Nigerian project.and you are comparing this important bridge with Buhari borrowing money to construct a rail line to Niger, his reason being that he has cousins over there.
That is how you will just spread mouth waaaahh and neglect your sense all cos of hate.
