Russia does not view Ukraine as a country, Putin has stated this a few times. Russia views Ukraine as Russian, but like a little brother, very condescending to Ukrainians.

Also Putin is afraid of Ukraine, very afraid. if Ukraine becomes a successful free democratic country, Putin's lies will be exposed to all Russians. Putin has stated the West is as corrupt as Russia therefore Russians do not need to embrace Western world. yet Putin has nothing to offer his own citizens. to complain about Putin today will result in a fine or more... No one is allowed to speak out against anything the government does...

Yet Russians are asking why they cannot have free elections like in Ukraine...

Countries want to join NATO to protect themselves from invasion by Russia... why would they want to embrace a nation that seeks to subjugate all citizens to the Russia boot?
