DissTroy:
When is the U.S. going to get sanctioned like Russia is being sanctioned? What is good for the goose...
It is hypocrisy, Diss. USA would never allow itself to be surrounded like they've surrounded Russia.

Not hypocrisy but power. You get to make the rules when you're strong. America is pretty evil but better them than China or Russia.

Ukrainians looking around but find no British or American neither beside them nor behind them. NATO's false promises to Ukraine has led to this war.

Pity Ukraine is the sacrificial lamb.

"These sanctions will have a heavy impact,” she said. “These sanctions will suppress Russia’s economic growth; increase the borrowing costs; raise inflation; intensify capital outflows; and gradually erode its industrial base.”

You'd think they were sanctioning USA with the way things are there already, depending on your news source of course.

The day I did the above post, or earlier, was the day Ukraine should have renounced loudly her Nato accession bid, and Vlad would have pulled back his siege, and the ongoing invasion would have been averted.

Sovereignty is important, but world peace is th,e most important.
Nato should not thrust itself into Russia's bedroom just because Soviet Union was defeated.
Russia still deserves some respect at least in its own neighborhood.

All these sanctions will be painful to Russia. But having Nato in Ukraine breathing down Russia's neck is an existential and extinction threat and feeling far more painful than any sanctions.

The sanctions are useless in these circumstances.
Vlad is doing what he has to do, [s]unlike in the woke west where the word patriotism has come to mean racism.[/s]
I do love the brain use.

Trump was right. They shouldn't have relied on Russia for gas. Bad idea.

So what was Trump's strategic plan for Ukraine?

I don't know but Putin was talking as if he can bring down Russia under 30 mins. grin. Now he's hiding under his basement.
So you just believe that Trump would have deescalated it without any idea of what he would have done?

You mean Biden? When did he say that?

This is bad but it's all Ukrainian president's fault for letting his country to be involved in whatever is going on between Russia and US. His brain could have saved Ukrainians from this war than the weapons that the instigators are giving him.

When trump tries to be diplomatic and friendly with Russia, the brainwash simpletons will call him a puppet. Biden been talking tough since and what has he done? Sanctions... okay.

Tucker is right. the EU should be ready to stand up to Russia while the US follow
Japan attacked US because the US was sanctioning them. this might escalate, sanction or not.
this is happening because Putin knows what they west can do.

That happens to everyone. History is cyclical and empire eventually meets its downfall.

It's neither moral nor fair, it's just true.

Putin's trump card is China and to an extent, Iran and North Korea.

I condemn his actions but there is a bigger game underneath the surface here.

Trump may have tried to curry favour with Putin by negotiating before it got to this stage, but at this stage, there's nothing he would have been able to do than to sanction Russia, which to me is speculative because he seemed cool with Putin.

There's a nation most of us are not focused on in this game of thrones, Turkey. Turkey is a NATO member but acts like an enemy from within. Erdogan may be having grudges against America due to sone attempted stuffs in the past, which makes it dicey for NATO.

I think Russia is just the face of some disgruntled people who are targeting uncle Sam. If America is not careful, there will be a real challenge when China decides to go against Taiwan.
It will be difficult to fight on two fronts if China decides to go berserk at this stage.

A time will come when sanctions won't do the right damage to intruders like Putin. China had to focus on their people alone to grow speedily before spreading their tentacles across the nations and continents.

I think we are moving into another era in history where we need these fightings to restart a new era of world peace (my opinion).
embarassed
I somewhat concur. This might be a test of the US resolve on its international policies. If it won't intervene in Ukraine what would make it intervene in Taiwan or elsewhere for that matter?

I don't think US has any real strategic plans for Ukraine any more. I think they only wanted to prevent it from falling into Russian orbit, the goal of siting bases there might have been scrapped at some point.

True for you, based, not for buda.

It's called, might is right, the ideology of the bully, for a reason.

This book is a reasoned negation of the Ten Commandments–the Golden Rule–the Sermon on the Mount–Republican Principles–Christian Principles–and "Principles" in general. It proclaims upon scientific evolutionary grounds, the unlimited absolutism of Might, and asserts that cut-and-dried moral codes are crude and immoral inventions, promotive of vice and vassalage.

As it stands, the best strategy is to try and deescalate issues as much as they can but I think it is past that already. The sanctions were factored in by Putin before he began this wilderness walk, he knew and would have predicted it, yet, he entered, which begs the question, why engage on such a wide scale of invasion knowing fully well that you'd be sanctioned massively?

The game just began, we will see China's move on Taiwan.

A multipolar world may look nice to others but deep down, the disadvantages far outweighs the advantages.

It goes even further than that. Most power is upheld by the implicit threat of physical violence.

Murder is bad, stealing is bad. What do we do to offenders? We send armed men to deny them some of their rights.

Look at it this way. For example the LGBT community is persecuted in Nigeria. I believe it is moral for them to have equal rights in this country but my belief isn't enough to change anything. Why? Because I, and the people who think like me don't have the numbers orthe power to effect that change. Until a critical mass of people support them, nothing will happen.

If China takes Taiwan, we're pretty much screwed. China would corner the semiconductor market, making them the manufacturers of most of our electronics. With the growing prevalence and reliance on smart devices, IoT, and cloud services, digital security would be a nightmare. Even moreso than now.

For that reason, I don't believe America will let Taiwan fall. Strategically speaking, they can afford to lose Ukraine but not Taiwan.

Don't you think Putin and Xi's latest bromance is because of something like this?

How will the US come into the battle between China and Taiwan when it happens? Like, what would be their reason to defend Taiwan or attack Chinese troops?

This is a chess game, everyone is tired and poised for war.

This is something like a bone stuck stuck in our throats. No one is safe from what warmongers are planning, not even those of us who are faraway in Africa.

The funny thing is that it is inevitable. It's not a matter of if but when.

God help us all.

Russia is hesitating too long to invade.
America would have invaded by now if it were Canada attempting to join the old Soviet hegemony.
Nato should not expand into Russia's bedroom.
Ukraine in Nato is not a threat to Russia, it's an existential threat.
Russia Isa have base in Cuba.

Ah Amelika invade Cuba yet?

Absolutely!
The West had plans for Ukraine, a Nato deal is as simple as putting pen to paper.
Why the delay?
Definitely there was a change of plans, Putin is wild.
Honestly know one know the capabilities of the Russian military.

Question is : who wants to find out?

I posted this on the old thread over 4yrs ago when I was discussing on contribution to NATO by European countries with Mindfulness

America is strong enough to fight its wars, Its Europe that needs help like they did in 1945 and they have been asking to help keep Russia in check

No one will dictate how you spend your military if you can handle your business and not run to big brother America anytime Putin rolls over Georgia, Ukraine or cuts gas supply to western Europe
