you talk about scholarly inclined and you still revel in the first expedition reports?
when you were writing your project, were you refrensing 1950's report??
John Clarke and Merrick whom were missionaries discovered the Oru DIALECTs and saw it to have affinity with that of new calabar, brass, ibani, okrika etc.
smith and baikie too began to later figure out the affinity.
Sigismund Koelle on his book Polyglotta Africana' also took note of it, and by 1880s the Oru(ijoid) Languages were grouped.
later on, linguist such as Gerrit Dimmendaal, Kay Williamson, Roger Blench, Paul hair in the 1900s already grouped the Oru Languages yet you clowns keep jerking on the old expedition.

and did I hear you say opu means big in igbo and not relating to ijoid Languages?
opu means big..there are names like Opubo, opu-alaikio opubigamabiri, opu-wari, opu-alabo, opu-kalango, opuamakuba(the first priest of Bonny) and so many other opu's

big in Igbo are odi'ukwu or vuri'ivu or nherin'nne or nnukwu but you say in your language oputabiye is someone with a big heart, LMAO. una dey try for lies o, even the devil is shocked!
someone with a big heart isn't it nnukwu-obi (nnukwu-big obi-heart) or obi-di'ukwu.
and you know say I Sabi Igbo you get mind dey lie for me.
brother man I am highly dissapointed in you.

Lol, Oru languages. You mean the Oru that is older than Ijo and closer to Igbo or another Oru. I suppose you think say na laymen dey here. So where are your references? Alagoa grin

Second, a person who don't understand Asusu Igbo cannot tell what he doesn't know. But I’ll teach you for free. In Udaume Igbo, they are some words with same written form but with different pronunciation and meanings.

For Example:
Akwa means
Akwa — Egg
Akwa — Tears
Akwa — Cloth

Opu Means
Opu - To come out
Opu — Crown or cap

Opu ta Ibe ye
A person who comes out to helps his mates

Opu ta Ibe ya na nsogbu
A person who comes out to help his mates from problem. So literally a person with a big heart.

Opu agu
Leopards Cap

Opuamakuba
Opu Ama K’uba— The community crown is greater than wealth.

you no fit decieve me brother man.
puta- come out
okpu- crown or cap
oputa'ibeya not opu ta Ibe ye

a person who comes out to help his mate in Igbo is _onye'n'aputa nzoputa ibeya or onye'nyem'aka not that nonesense you're trying to conjure up there to suit your narrative.

okpu-agu leopard cap not opu.

the community crown is greater than wealth is okpu'eze'na chi'obodo ka'uba or okpu'ochichiri'obodo ka'uba
but If you want to use ama(which is borrowed from ijaws)
it is okpu'ama ka'uba or okpu'ochichiri'ama ka'uba
not that manipulation with alphabet you did there.
like I said, I'm dissapointed in you again.
trying to pass cap as opu instead of okpu.
to come out is spelt o'puta.

What you are saying is wholly different. The white men at these period of Bonny, Okrirka and Opobo were neutral in their apporachm in fact they either did everything for the King or Queen, according to reports I heard in the 1880s it was King George or so who ruled, and he was a mad king.

The world was stereotyped at some point, so when the English and Europeans found that they weren't the only ones living in planet earth, they wanted to take as much documentation from this lands. And any distortion of information can bring death. So these explorers and professionals were meticulous in their approach when requiring information.

They'd supplied them all the things they needed to stay on these lands for at least years and more to make their full research.

Now, the question, how did the so called white man you say know more about Bonny and Opobo kings rituals at that given period. He even jotted down the plague which almost eliminated Ijaws, if not for the help of the Arochukwu, or the Bonny queen's death, which is well documented even till date. And so many detailed stuff. The rituals, the cultural practices. I beckon you sit down and read the book to make your unbiased notion.

That said, what would Bonny and Opobo, or even Okrirka gain if they'd tried to know more about them. At least the ancestors of these city states knew about the white men becuase they'd told them everything. But the Bonny and Opobo and the likes where truthful and proud of who they were and rightly claimed being Igbo or Ebo as the white man corrupted it. They didn't mince a word.

So, what fallacy are we seeing here. Is the fallacy from the ancestors of Bonny and Opobo or Okrirka or the white man who was simply doing his job documenting all he saw.

I trust Igbo people if they'd seen this before you, or if these old documents was more about Ijaw and all. Igbos wouldn't even force theirselsves on it. They'll simply let it pass.

But the attention came when most Bonny and Opobo claimed they were Igbos, although divided. And they spoke Igbo. IJAWS quickly lambasted such groups telling us not to listen to them that those are either foreigners of the land or slaves. But it don't add up. That is when we began to make our research and thank God for the internet archives we found it.
Alagoa made his book in the early 70s or so becuase he thought the internet would never be, or he never predicted such a time. But the gods of Bonny and Opobo are angry even God is angry himself and had to intervene. Who knows it may be becuase of these things that the land of Bonny and Opobo and the likes aren't prosperous as they are meant to be. Things do happen spiritually too. Ijaws are trying to bring a curse upon the land, and that isn't fair. So, I've said much do settle down and make inductive and deductive reasoning on this, and you will find the answers yourself.
lol, this one dey mumu.
she said the gods are angry that ijaws want to claim and that is why Bonny and Opobo aren't prosperous.
Bonny alone wey fit send the entire Ghanaians abroad for scholarship in Jupiter isn't prosperous?
even your papa yeye village for Ghana, the state, the province and the entire GDP no reach Bonny and you are saying the gods are angry.
mumu just dey talk anyhow. as your papa village dey for Ghana and miserable, what then are we going to say about the gods?
say the gods don bring endtime upon the village??

Have you seen any Okrikan bearing Igbo names? Have you see any Okrikan addressing our king as Eze or igwe? Have you see any Okrikan person dressing in Igbo attire? The answer is no.
I don't believe anything you igbo bring here as evidence in our very eyes, you are trying to change the meaning of Wakirike from we are not different to children of the creeks.
Is it by force to be igbos? Is it by force to be bothers? You are doing all these things because you want to turn Port Harcourt into an Igbo city. But know this, no inch of Okrika land will be given to igbos, any Igbo you see in Okrika are descendant of Igbo slaves, and slave are owner of no land.
Okrika is still an ijaws clan it is there on Wikipedia if you have real courage, go and edit to an Igbo clan I dare you.
And Okrika is still an ijaw subgroup in Wikipedia till now. With the way that Eastlink, SlayerForever's and all these Igbo people were chest beating, you will think they will have taken this their chest beating and put it where their mouth is and change Okrika people from an ijaw Subgroup to an Igbo own on Wikipedia. Odikwa egwu.

So the Alagoa-forged Amandiokari should now be used to replace records written down by multiple European neutral observers, who got their information from Bonny elders of the 17 and 1800s.

Ask Alagoa to refer us to any records by even one single neutral European observer/historian of the 1700 or 1800s who ever mentioned that Ndoki people were Ijaws, or that Amandokiari was the full name of the Ndokis, and you will meet a resounding silence.

A very powerful addition to ife ana ekwu .

Opobo is clearly Igbo. And if Opobo is Igbo, Bonny must be Igbo, because Opobo was chiefly populated by Bonny indigenes.

This is another beautiful piece of history.
So in 1905 Opobo was Igbo
In 1925 Opobo was also confirmed igbo by a newspaper publication
Yet, in 2022 while Opobo still speak igbo till date and continue practice a largely igbo culture, Bayelsa boys are claiming relationship today.

I think Egwanga there refers to Igwuocha, the former name for the current Portharcourt.

I believe it is Igwe Nga, an old alternative name for the Opobo areas. Even today, the Igbo dialect in Opobo is called Igwe Nga but a bit old-fashioned.

lol, fool
I'm only surprised, shocked and dumbfounded at your daftness and inability to read and comprehend.
the goodle algorithm will show, and it will keep on showing that no one from Opobo, ndoki and Bonny has ever come out here on nairaland to say he is igbo.
you go on to force your unholy biafra on people who aren't interested, you go on to lie even when you're always exposed.

I am asking you now, what is your war canoe house in your town?
what is the name of your Amayanabo?

you have none because the culture is different.
we are MATRILINEAL and you are patrilineal.

the whole algorithm will show your desperation and even your failed inability to tell us what curlew fly or okoloama means in your Igbo DIALECT.

the joke is on you.
the whole NIGERIA and diaspora know what you lots are.

Do they have to claim anything. Igbo is the native language of Opobo and not a Gbaramatu language.
