Putin literally said we are not standing in line with a lot of countries that don't matter.... He refused to follow the normal process of joining Nato. Putin expected Nato to invite Russia then, but he was told nato doesn't invite countries, countries apply to join.. So I don't know where you got the info that Putin applied and was rejected?

The Russian military is now less than 20 miles from Kiev the Ukrainian capital as we speak. That is less than 24 hours of fighting! If Ukraine knows they're this miserably hopeless, why didn't they do enough to stave off the invasion? There was no way The United States or NATO would have intervened to fight against a nuclear armed Russia. So what's the point putting your country through this mess? The West continues using these countries as cannon fodders in their senseless proxxy wars with Russia and China.

My brother I never said he applied. Read what I wrote again. He offered/showed interest but the West did not agree to his terms. My point is if the West Truly wanted peace they would have accepted and ended the threat to European security once and for all. Considering Russia's Military might and ihe perceived threat that should have been done. However if Russia joins NATO that will also remove NATO's relevance and lead to its eventual collapse because without a threat why should countries pay to be part of the alliance. Peace

So NATO doesn’t need to be against any specific state or group to continue to have a very important job to do...To prevent any more annexed Crimea’s and Russian occupied Ukraine.

This crises have been brewing for over a decade. The West knows what they're doing. Russia knows what they are doing too. You have to understand how NATO works. Once you're a member of NATO, if you're attacked, all members of NATO have a duty to join hands to defend you. It means that the attackers will be facing the military arsenal of the whole of western Europe and others that are members of NATO. So what happens if Ukraine joins NATO and a president of Ukraine starts a sort of war with Russia? NATO will have to do something to defend Ukraine. That means that all of a sudden, Russia will have to fight The USA, France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain , Portugal etc. These are some of the most sophisticated militaries in the world. You're going to face them over a minor squabble with your neighbor? Right at your borders! Especially a neighbor that has ethnic Russians as her citizens too?

Putin is not about war but to protect his people's interests and land like any country would do. America's left are the people causing problem in Ukraine and until they leave Ukraine with their criminal soldiers, Russia will stay in Ukraine. The thing about international politics is that there would always be 'empires', one or two countries who deem themselves are superior to others & seek to impose thier ideologies. If you were a student of international politics, you would know this.

You seem to think the former 'Soviet states' have always belonged to Russia. They are territories conquered by the Red Army. So, what is wrong in Ukraine & other former Soviet States insisting on thier independence?

Taiwan was annexed by China (I think the Qing dynasty) in the 1500s or 1600s, & though they share similar ancestry, they were long independent before China took over the lands.

You talk about rape of by the West, do you think Russia & China are any better? That you choose to swallow the Eastern propaganda is your choice, so your reference to Stockholm syndrome is a reference that is out of context. Abeg helep me ask them (Ukraine is a sovereign country people) watin Britain dey do for Falkland Islands. Falklands no even share border with Britain. Argentina claimed the Falklands in 1982 (as they have always insisted), but Thatcher and Reagan fought a war to reclaim it. Till today Falkland Islands is a British territory.

Well, you may be right about USA being the ones with an agenda especially given the reality of neocolonialism. But there are a couple of issues I think need to be considered...

1. Until about the late 1800s, what is known as Ukraine today, was an independent territory until it was annexed by the Soviet Red Army. So Ukraine has a longer history of independence than Russsia wants us to believe.

2. Russia has always treated Ukraine as an appendage since the balkanisation, & as a threat since pro-democratic forces took over power in Ukraine, a key factor why Ukraine applied to join NATO.

3. If Russia was against Ukraine joining NATO, it could apply progressively severe economic, political & social sanctions... even a quarantine action (lesser form of blockade) to force Ukraine to reconsider its stance. A full scale war was not necessary... in my opinion...

4. After cowering Ukraine, Russia will now share borders with about 3-4 other former Soviet States that are now NATO members. Will it also invade them to 'secure' its own borders?

In all, I think Russia has made its point, but it has also showed that it is really a threat to surrounding sovereign nations...
