This is my favourite clause;

10. Clause 84 stipulates that anyone holding a political office – ministers, commissioners, special advisers, and others – must relinquish the position before they can be eligible to participate in the electoral process either as a candidate or as a delegate.

Invariably you're saying a president must relinquish his position if he wants a second term? cheesy

Political 'Office' Vs Political 'position'

DrIkB post=110564071:

It didn’t say Elected political office holders, aside Amaechi who is a political appointee , the rest of the list can contest without resigning... and it’s worthy to note, this law as been in place ever since.

Will Prof Osinbajo, Ameachi, Dave Umahi, Orji Uzor Kalu and Rochas Okorocha resign by June 2022 so as to participate in the 2023 Election

.

This act will strengthen the law.

That law has always been there, but they always have a way around it.

Do you think that incumbents would relinquish their posts to contest an election they are not sure to win?

Political office ,not elected office.

You cannot resign as a president,VP,governor, senator, just because you are seeking a second term or a new elected office.

I think is a step in d right direction. If not for anything, that transmission of results from polling unit is awesome because 90% of election rigging is when results are on transit from polling unit's to coalition center. That is when the riggers manipulate results infavour of d wrong candidate. At least this is the only reasonable thing this government have done.

You got it wrong... It's only for political appointed positions and not for elective positions. Osibanjo, Umahi are elective positions holders, hence they are not caught up. Only the appointed position holders like ministers, commissioners and others are barred. Although, Buhari had rejected that section of the bill and he had a discussion, prior to his assent with both chambers' representatives to remove that section as it contravens our constitution and they agreed to remove it.
I think Buhari is trying to protect Emefele, Amaechi's interests cheesy
He was right. Political office holders include those appointed and those elected. It's a way of maintaining political neutrality.

He's not right.. Go and read the bill again. So you expect a siting governor or president to resign their positions because they are vying for reelection?? The bill is for appointed political positions and not elective political positions, man..

I thought the electronic transmission was most worrisome to some candidates, but the clause above disqualifies so many except they are willing to take a very huge career risk relinquishing their positions and access to state funds alongside without a guarantee to the slot, while electronic transmission further reduces the odd of winning..

Candidates at risk with the resignation clause:
- Wike
- Tambuwal
- Osinbajo
- Amaechi
- Bala Mohammed
- Umahi
- ogbonnaya onu Etc..

Candidates at risk with electronic transmission for preferred candidates:
- Tinubu
- Hope uzodinmma
- Ben ayade
- Ikpeazu
- Orthom
- Masari
- Ganduje
- Abdul Rahman
- oyetola
- Matawale

Buhari sure wants to honour from GEJ of having organized the best election that ever happened in Nigeria..
Oga, the clause only affect political appointees not elective office holders.

It has always been my opinion that parties should be allowed to maintain their mandate after the death/deflection of a lawmaker.
..but I'm disappointed similar law isn't extended to deflections, especially serving governors and lawmakers.

The clause covered for candidates that died, not those that detected.
