APC Wins Akure South, North Federal Constituency Bye-Election by afroniger(op): 9:05am On Feb 27, 2022

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Mr Alademayokun Olarewaju of the All Progressives Congress as winner of Saturday’s by-election for the Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency.

Declaring the result in Akure, the Returning Officer, Prof. Deji Ogunseni, said Olarewaju polled 26,370 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr Olumuyiwa Adu of the Peoples Democratic Party, who scored 24,201 votes.

Ogunseni said Mr Olawale Oyekanmi of the Accord Party scored 41 votes; Mrs Oluwawemimo Fadekemi of ADP scored 465 votes; Joseph Ajayi of APP polled 125 votes; Johnson Olawusi of NRM scored 76 votes, while Opawole Tajudeen of SDP scored 68 votes.

The bye-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat, following the death of the member representing the constituency, Mr Adedayo Omolafe, in August, 2021.

To me it is confirmation you view Igbo land and Igbo politics as hopeless and therefore need to identify with Yoruba politics.

I say this as politically active Yoruba with total focus on Yorubaland. I see literally thousands of Yorubas, the right type as well, desperate to join politics in Yorubaland and make a positive difference.

How many Yorubas care about ward and constituency elections in ala Igbo? Even State legisative elections in the SW you are passionately interested in from your bases in Imo, Abia, Ebonyi State etal.

I said it the way it is like wise when Pdp wins and declared winners, I said it the way it is also. Besides I can see improvement in Inec capacity to handle elections in Nigeria. Besides the amended Electoral bill have been appended by Buhari. Let’s see more of their efforts in making Other election free and credible. No form of inconclusive in other elections.
