Don’t deceive yourself, nato would never get involved, if you need a precedent, ask Georgia 2008. Also while admittedly the United States is the worlds only super power, if it were easy for it to invade Russia, it would have found an excuse to do so. Do you think war is all about weapons? You consider geography also, allies, defense, resilience. And who told you Russian missiles can’t hit the US mainland. What does ICBM stand for? Who is the current leader in the race while fielding hypersonic weapons? We all clearly don’t want a nuclear war, a nuclear war head does not need precision, even if you were able to intercept it above your airspace, everyone would still die there. I also hope you realize hypersonic gliders currently have no defense. So a nuclear war head mounted on a glider would surely get to its destination unhindered. America is the greatest military power on earth right now. That however doesnt mean they cant be defeated by a few adversaries. When nuclear weapons, especially those delivered via ICBMs or SLBMs are involved, deaths and destruction prevails. I dont think Americans will take consolation in the fact that they can utterly destroy Russia, when such an action will all but guarantee the eradication of their homeland. And by the way, no real defense exist for ICBMs and SLBMs yet, especially in quantities possesed by Russia. I have no doubt America will intercept and destroy any plane/air launched nukes, but the others nukes simply travel too fast and has so may warheads and penetration aids.
