You did well by returning the money and even if u didn't return the money the bank will still recover their money onless u don't have upto 100k in the account anymore or u will abandone ur account with the bank by not making use of the account anymore thats the only way the cashier will pay the money. Once it is well known and established that u are the person being overpaid by the cashier cus for the cashier to have called u means the person have try balance and that he is having shortage of 100k then he must have done call over to his ticket and discover were the problem is coming from. A POS operator, Excel Matthew Okorie on Thursday afternoon, returned N100,000 naira to a bank staff that overpaid him in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Focus Naija can report that the POS operator had gone to withdraw N192,000 from the PZ road branch of FCMB to kickstart the day’s business when the cashier wrongly paid him N292,000 instead.

Narrating the incident on social media, the POS operator who combines business with academics said that his integrity was put into test by the encounter.

According to him, he told the bank staff to properly confirm the amount before he left the banking hall that morning.

He said at noon he surprisingly received a call from the same cashier telling him to cross check the amount paid to him as it seems he was overpaid with N100,000.

He wrote in part;

“At noon my phone rang from the bank and it happens to be the cashier that attended to me , pleading I should recheck my cash , because he thinks I was given extra 100,000 naira.

“Immediately I checked the cash and saw an over cash of 100,000 naira immediate many things came into my mind but i imagine the mental stress the poor banker will be and his job is almost at risk.

“On getting to the bank at about 30 minutes been called, he was happy seeing my face with the 100,000 and asked please what business do you do which I told him.

Indeed my integrity was tested by the universe today and soon we believe our business is having branches in no distance time.

He was later given N200 (two hundred naira) by the banker for transportation.

Between a cashier and a customer who should cross check, knowing how things happen in our country? He just collected the money without cross checking, went to his shop, kept the money and next, boom, his integrity was tested. Next many things passed through his mind. Na wah.

I put it to the young man that he counted the money and knew how much was there. He waited thinking that the bank should not remember the money. When the bank called, he thought it would become a big issue. He then returned the money claiming that his integrity was tested.

And the cruel Banks' Managements are always delirious at financial year end to declare billions of Naira in profits, some of which they share among themselves as profitability sharing, without considering the Tellers at the shop floors who actually did the hardest part of the jobs. Shame on them.

You don't know where the capital came from.

You don't know what they went through to start the bank.

So don't expect the sharing formula to be the same when the profits arrive.

How much is a teller earns in a month, between 50 and 80k. Many of them are just struggling to survive. That's why fraud is so pervasive in Nigerian banks.

You did well by returning the money.. Indeed your integrity was put to test...
But all the same, you needed not to laugh at the 200 Naira appreciation... The 100 still isn't the cashier's.. And just maybe he/she had only that same 200 at hand to give out....

The truth is that people managing most banks in Nigeria are purely after the profits and their individual pockets. The welfare of the low level staffs are not their concerns. They think they are doing them favour by employing them, just because of the dire employment situation in Nigeria.

I am not talking about the profit here, but I am emphasising about the welfare of the staff working for them. Every organisation operates for profitability sake, but not to the detriment of their staffs.

You are deliberately being mischievous, most banks across the world share profits across board to all level of their staffs at year end, but not in Nigeria.

Bankers are envied all over the world, but in Nigeria, majority of them live in a make believe situation. Many of their staffs spent more than a decade at one employment level with no promotion, leading to a massive frustration. Most of their Marketers are being driven like slaves, and have developed high blood pressure due to unreasonable deposit targets assigned to them.

And so on, and so forth.
