I am not saying they are not making use of Igbo dialects at all but you can't compared it with let say Wizkid which In almost in all his songs, there must be a new Yoruba words/terms .

Both of them have also used Yoruba words in their music nwhich are also popular and trend.

I don't know what you are talking about.
Igbo musicians always add Igbo to their songs.

Wizkid has had to use Igbo words too in his songs, Davido and co too.

I have actually been struggling with your arguments, more like they have no basis.

Wizkid is old generation at what age? lipsrsealed
We have what they call "Gen Z"

Are you sure you are exposed at all?
Hope you know what Gen Z means

Our roots(land) has been compromised and poisoned. The day we get Biafra back is the day the our cultures will take centre stage. From Igbo, to Calabar, from Ibibio to Annang!

Is Efik or Anang or Ibibio igbo?

Do they even share any etymological relationship?

If they did they must be cousins 5 steps removed.

You are not addressing the issue apart from shifting goal post.

In all tribes in Nigeria, to my best of understanding oo, Igbo's are the ones who speak less of their local dialect even when they are within each other.

The Igbo parents have neglected teaching their wards local dialect which is making the situation detoriating yearly.

I have lived amongst Igbo's before, except people from the same state, town or community, if Igbo's of different community or state converge together, they hardly speak local dialect but English. It's something I have also observed for quite some time
Disgusting Yoruba man, face your tribe and leave others alone. Don't you have shame?

Laughing hysterically @ emboldened...

If Lagos or other SW states are not already developed, your people won't be coming. And if you people relocate back to your region, that won't still stop the development of SW states.

It's only derision which is just to massage egos of some people.. We have no issue with that as long that makes them sleep better at night.
Sneaky creatures. Is ibadan, Ogbomosho or Oshogbo developed.? Lagos is not Yorubaland, it is a no man's land. Show me anywhere in Yorubaland that is developed.

Omo I cannot ooooh make I no lie. I went to a market in Abuja months back to get something and the guy was like I don't speak like someone from Imo embarassed na so shame catch. I think I'm the only one in my family who can't communicate in Igbo efficiently. My other siblings does and parents rap igbo like music. Well I'm mostly not at home and so I mix up with the non-language speakers and this affects me. You can only know I'm Igbo by my surname, state or somehow physical appearance but a lot of people think I'm from Delta, Kogi or Edo.

But it's not their fault they were born there, they didn't choose to their parents migrated there in search for greener pastures,my late dad migrated to Lagos after the end of the civil war in 1972.

It's not the child's fault but the parents who didn't speak or educate them in that aspect....

Like me,in school we speak English but once I'm home, you don't speak English in the house,if dad is talking to you and u mistakenly use English, na resounding slap u go collect....

I don't see any reason for this thread. The sad reality is that the few that can't speak Igbo because they were born in ordinary Lagos are even grave minority compared to those born within that Lagos that can speak Igbo.

I have noticed that most Efulefus like to make their personal problem a national one. The fact that you personally can't speak Igbo because you were born in Lagos doesn't mean that you should broadcast something that you should be ashamed of as of it affects others who can speak the language.

If I am to rate the ratio of those born in Lagos that can speak Igbo to those born in that same lagos that can't, I will say that it is 15:1 in Igbo favour.

If you doubt it, create another thread to ascertain the ratio, then you will find out why I say that those that cannot speak Igbo should just keep quiet and get lost.

They made their choice
POCAHONTAS IS A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE, I NOR EVEN SURE SAY DEM BORN AM FOR HERE BUT SHE DEY FALL HAND

Nonsense. Ekiti peoples Yoruba although might not be fully understood, but there is no way a typical Yoruba man won't understand the whole context of what the Ekiti or Ijebu man is saying. This people act in Yoruba movies speaking with their different intonations and they are still understood. I wonder were these obviously dumb facts come out from.

Moreover there is a general Yoruba toungue without any predominant thick intonations, Yoruba people also use to communicate among each other.

There is nothing like ekiti language.

it make it hard to speak the general Igbo language because of local dialect.

A lot of Igbo local government in Igbo states have different dialect.

What parents teaches their kids is their village dialect not central Igbo, you can learn central Igbo either in the school or through interacting with other Igbos from different states. Those who can not speak Igbo are those who doesn't speak any Igbo dialect at all.

I have relatives born and raised in USA who speak impeccable Igbo.

I think it's more of a problem with Igbos raised in non Igbo parts of NIGERIA than Igbos in outside NIGERIA.

Dont say they speak impeccable Igbo. Na for yankee I born all my children....from day one I don dey hammer Igbo but its only me and my wife against millions of English speaking America. They understand Igbo very well but they cant speak it properly. Though, they are still very little. They go to daycare and its starts there.

Don't play that card. It doesn't work on Ndigbo any longer.
If those Efulefu in Lagos decided not to learn Igbo, then we have no option than to consider them lost.

The Igbo nation have passed the stage of blackmail. Once they step into Igboland or any Igbo affair outside Igboland, they will be reminded without remorse that they are Efulefus. People with no nation.

I don't understand. Who are the efulefus? The people who can't speak Igbo or which ones?

why would they learn or speak language that is not appealing to hear, some of them are even a shame of speaking the language in public outside iboland. that cannot be say about yoruba and Hausa.

The igbo language and culture is actually more interesting and beautiful than yoruba and hausas most white people love the igbo language it's the political marginalization of the igbos in nigeria that's actually the root cause of these.

As for Yorubas, our afrobeat musicians that are making waves all across the world have made the Yoruba language to be cool for Yoruba Children born in the diaspora because they sing majorly in Yoruba language. It has connected the Yoruba Children back to their root and it makes them to understand the language better. Go to any Davido,Wizkid or Burna's concert in UK or US and you will hear these diasporean kids speaking Yoruba slangs like they were born in Naija.....Let us preserve our culture o!!!
