The sanction thing works like a fight between a billion-dollar conglomerate and a tiny company.
Using Nigeria as an instance, Dangote conglomerate can stop buying sugar cane from a major farmer in Jos, and also influence other buyers not to buy the farmer's produce. To make up the shortfall, it could invest in farmers in Cameroon or Benin to supply it with Sugar cane.

Of course the farmer can fight back by refusing to buy Dangote cement for his one-room shack construction project. However in reality, Dangote can ruin the farmer by blocking 100% of its income while the farmer cannot even hurt 1% of Dangote's business in Jos alone.

Russia is about the size of Texas's economy. Worse still, it is not as innovative as Japan in high-tech goods critically needed in the USA. Therefore, it has almost nothing EXCEPT GAS! Unfortunately, it cannot afford to stop selling its oil and gas because 100% of its income comes from there too. Not to mention that USA has its own abundant oil and gas supplies too.

Fools , opportunity for the countries whose products have not gotten prominence to make cool money through international trades. Nigeria should key into most of these areas in agric export and he likes .

You can't crush a communist government by mere sanctions, that is why Russia is still exporting cheap food to countries eg Pakistan.

Before Russia started her own sanction, the West have already started the effect of her own sanction on Russia all thanks to capitalism.
In all, communism feeds on loyalty while capitalism feeds on the poor. With this you can tell who can survive economic sanctions. You now understand why North Korea is still standing after being freezed from the world.

80% of Russia supporters here on Nairaland are muslims and they are supporting Russia without any reasonable reason than for their hate against the west. Why not think about your own country, can Nigeria stand even 2days of invasion of such magnitude? Una go dey here dey show unnecessary hatred for America, and Uk. yet una country will still go cap in hand to the same west to collect aid. Shame!

Russia supply 40% of Gas in Europe. There are panic that Russia will cut off gas supplies to Europe. This will be devastating to both Russia and America. Because the West can hardly do without gas. Germany is already warning against this. Price of Crude oil has already increased and you think the sanctions are not also affecting America. The truth is that the whole will feel the heat.

I know the title calls it a hit back, but it's actually a survival move. They didn't place the ban to cripple the West. They placed the ban primarily to save thier own economy first. A dying economy can hardly cripple anyone. Besides, nothing in the Russian history shows they're great economists. China is the only country that can play this game with the West.

Three the actions they have taken is for the protection of their own economy so that what they produce locally can me managed locally until the situation improves.

Hope you know that the West buying her oil is a necessity not a luxury and they need it to come cheap that is why Russia is insisting that they now pay in Rubles

The plan to devaluate Ruble is a two way something. If the owner accept to use yours, you win but when you are conditioned to his, then you only made things more expensive for yourself.

If they used to buy at 1 for equivalent of one dollar before, then being conditioned to pay in current Ruble is like 1 for 1000 dollars. Do you now understand why the West is now restless?
They shot themselves in the foot. Without gas, very soon dead frozen bodies will start dropping in Europe. Many will start witnessing power outages. All thanks to uncalculated sanction.

You just dey talk rubbish. The ban is to explicitly balance the trade in import and export. Since other countries have banned Russian exports, its economical for Russia to ban these Countries import into the Russian economy to avoid trade deficite i.e situation whr imports will out Weigh/surpass export like stupid country called Nigeria....

Small small kids. How would dat measure cripple UK. As a matter of fact is just to help reduce the effect of sanction on them but it will only get worst in the long run . Even as big as US economy they can not afford this kind of economy war Russia is facing and Putin think they can survive it .U want to take on how many countries 48 even US as big as they are won't try dis shit.
