And u think we are not taxed. I work in a manufacturing company in Lagos. I can bet u since this govt came to power, is one tax and the other. Something we never experience under PDP. All ur allowances are taxed now. During PDP era, na only basic salary them they tax. Bro u are defending what u dont know
All this talk has nothing to do with power companies not being able to give power because they operate at a loss.

Plus you work for a company, and you have increased prices since taxes have gone up? Would you like it if government in addition to increasing taxes, also came and said that your company should not set prices of the goods it manufactures, but instead should set a price below how much it costs to make the stuff your company makes.?

That's the problem.

The power companies are so broke that they cannot even pay tax self.

I can only accept the bolded up for now, and yes I can also accept that people should pay more under one condition, that they put all the structures to make the light 24hrs first because they have increasing it with the promise that the light will get better, but it has been getting worse, so I don't believe them anymore, because from 4k - 42k and the light got worse means even if they make it one million it might never get better, I will not accept any increase till I can see 24 hrs light.

Let me ask you a question, if you were to pay a private tutor to teach your child to pass jamb and the first year the child failed, you met the tutor, the tutor said you should increase the fee, you did and the child still failed, the tutor collected more and more money up to 5 times and the child even got worse in the performance, will you pay that tutor any more money again or believe anything he says, let him make the child pass first then you pay him, this example can be used on your car and your mechanic, see right now I don't believe it, there is nobody that will believe after such numerous promises with increment, they should find a way to get the stable before asking for increment, Nigerians are tired...
The truth is that FG does not have both capacity & capability to supply power to every state...I stand to be corrected!
This is the reason behind the bill that empowers states government to generate, transmit and distribute power in their state...this will make the Governors seeks funds to build gencos or even bring in investors to do so!
If the bill is signed, states like Lagos,or any Niger delta state will be able to provide adequate & reliable power supply to their states while others who don't have such financial muscle can still remain in the national grid until they get an investor to build one for them!
I cannot believe that at this age and time,we are struggling to have adequate power supply!
.....and someone will open his mouth to tell me that I must pay more if I want to get adequate power supply....paying for darkness..smh!

Just telling you Nigerians what it takes ....
you have come with your nonsense again. You want a country where the average annual income is N200,000 to pay for essentials at the same cost of those that earn $20,000 (N10million) minimum per annum? You always think you are smart but all you say are rubbish. Ordinary house keeper in the united states earns at least $20,000 a year while housekeepers here are making N15,000 a month which is N180,000 a year

When you pay N20 to N60 for something that costs N53 to N80 to make, this is what you get.

No profits, bad service.

If you want power 24 seven, let the sector set its price so that money dey for more generation and better transmission.

You cannot pay 400 naira for a car.

Before anyone quotes me again, I advise them to read this....

SOLVING THE LIQUIDTY CRUNCH IN THE NIGERIAN POWER SECTOR

Google for it, and download it. And read it.

SUMMARY BELOW
You can't give what you don't have.
The gap of access to electricity to Nigeria is high to start with.
How many Nigerians has 24hrs or even access to electricity.
There's no electricity in Nigeria.

So, either the power companies give power to those that can pay (as seen in some African countries) or government goes into debt ensuring that every village has light 24 seven

Power costs money. I hate it, but it is the truth. And it has to be paid for, whether Nigerians are poor or rich.....

first improve the welfare of the people how well is the economy working? What opportunities does an average nigerian have? What facilities are available for financing education, housing, welfare, business establishment? You are just here always advocating high cost of living and comparing costs with countries that better provides for her citizens. Countries with high costs of electricity, what is the minimum wage there? Cant they afford to pay? You and ur half clever support for the failures of the nigerian government

Improve the welfare of the people with imaginary money?

Okay. We pay everyone N1 million naira. Meaning we end up with a budget of something like 200 trillion naira. Where would you find the money?

Improve the welfare of the people....that's how you guys come and talk dreams....

get small sense. Make your analysis balanced. You cant talk about costs of living without talking about the economic situation of a country and how it affects its citizens in relation to the costs of living. Subsidy is everywhere. There are times when the economy is hard, developed nations also introduce subsidies to easy costs. But you just come here to always bad mouth Nigerians as if you are they one providing the money they are using to survive

I believe FG can supply Nigeria with adequate electricity but there's high corruption in Nigeria it won't work.
FG control crude oil, gas supply and even coal, all these are sources we can generate power supply.
The equipments/materials to supply the electricity is what is needed to be purchased to supply electricity by FG.
You can even power a power plant with crude oil not to talk of flaring of gas on our refineries.

Once again another tale of trash but this time in a prevaricated pattern!
All the products that have no subsidy, has it altered the price downward or upward!
The deregulated AGO diesel is now hovering around 645-700 per litre from 250 and U believe paying more will bring the price down?
Even if each Nigerian pays 100k for adequate power, the same company will still say its not enough...so how has paying more become a solution?

Good evening. I can't argue with fantasies.
now you have confirmed that indeed you are just pretending to be smart. Where did I say they should pay any body any money. I only compared the earnings of people in countries with high cost of electricity with that of nigerians. Since minimum wage is terribly low here, then cost of living must be kept low. Economic policies and strategies to bolster the economy must come first. We are not looking at the problem of why the economy is not doing well, why investments are low, why production is low and imports are terribly high. We solve that first, when there is money peoples standard of living would improve and they would be able to pay better for essentials

We can disagree on that.

Problem is not monopoly, but they operating at a loss because government said so.

Plus, other companies won't step in for the same reason. Why should I come in and do business, and government tells me how I must set my price? So that I won't have cash to improve and expand?

Reason why Glo and 9 mobile came in after MTN and Airtel is simple. Government was not setting prices in the GSM sector.
Good evening sir.

Do you even have an idea of what subsidy is?

The government fills up the gap (money) in the cost of production and that is why it is called subsidy!!!

Baba, if government let others join and allow a fierce competition, I can bet my ballz dat there will be drastic improvement in power with reasonable price.
Don't you hear about crazy bill, let me tell u d truth, we use less dan we pay for, forget dat hr mathematics you we're quoting.
Imagine paying high bills without using d light, here, we pay 10k minimum in our own flat, not d block, our own house, wen we don't use up to 4k light in a month. So wetin u dey talk say we dey under pay, baba calm down, it won't kill d government to fix power, just dat some elements are benefiting from it.

The gap between the cost of production and the selling price set by government is the gap meant to be covered by what is called the subsidy

Which rises when the cost of production rises...due to varied factors.

Simple.
