France Football Magazine (responsible for the Ballon d'Or) organised the African Player of the Year awards since 1970.

In 1992, CAF decided to be organising the award which the "France football magazine" refused to give up.

So two different awards were given in 1992.
CAF gave the award to Abedi Pele just like France Football did.

In 1993, France Football gave it to Abedi Pele (who just won the UCL with Olympique Marseille) whilst CAF handed over to Rashidi Yekini.

In 1994, France Football gave it to George Opong Weah whilst CAF gave it to Emmanuel Amunike.

It was discontinued after 1994 due to changes in the Ballon d'Or awards.

So, Yekini is a former winner.
