Ex-Nigerian international Austine “Jay-Jay” Okocha has revealed he never won the major continental and world awards because he did not play as a striker.

Concise News reports that Okocha who is regarded as one of the finest midfielders in the world during his prime never won the African Player of the Year or got a shot at the FIFA Best Player prize.

Okocha’s closest to winning the African Player of the Year was in 1998 when he finished as runner-up to Morocco’s Mustapha Hadji.

Plus he did not play in big clubs and did not win much trophies both with club and country

See talk , he is consoling himself on this one. Okocha was a good player but he allowed money make the decision for him. Better clubs were willing to buy him but he declined all of them . Bros na for Bolton u wan win African best or world best. I'll forever love kanu cos he played football with passion and he is a greater player than okocha. Midfielders are also recognized I.e Xavi, iniesta , modric... Skills without result is zero . Football is all about the result . As it stands findidi, kanu, taribo, amuneke are star names than okocha
