I'm thankful to all the contributors on my previous thread here: https://www.nairaland.com/7032114/how-greet-neighbor-just-gave

I took the advice of some matured Nairalanders, rehearsed them couple of times, went with a little courage and overcame.

Some people from my previous thread were asking me what's difficult in going to greet someone who gave birth?

Well, that's what makes us different. To you it's easy. But for some of my type, it's very difficult.

The one I hate more than anything is going for condolence visit. I don't know of any other visit as hard as that. I always avoid that sh!t undecided

Anyways, once again, thank you all.

Just do it......Nike.

Once you do it one more time, you would have killed that attitude.

I usually don't know what to say, I don't go alone. I just look sober.

With this you have done more than enough. You are grieving with the bereaved.

I prefer to follow someone or be in group for such visits. I remember when my brother's landlady gave birth. I didn't go. The lady disturbed me so much that I decided to summon courage only to meet her absence the day I decided to visit. I didn't visit her again till I left Awka then. I just Press 1k put for her hand.

Greeting is hard

after you greet, you begin de look ground, what to say next....... (what am i waiting for again?)

i prefer meeting you for road and greet everything together- how was your day, you don give birth? ah congrats, when? i did not hear, ah you are looking great, ah beautiful baby.

Condolence is the hardest

Paddy you read my mind now...

My colleague lost his 5 year old daughter.. I don't know how to visit him and what to say oooo

how the hell do you do that?

What the hell am I going to say ?

I am just weak ... He hasn't been coming to work its been over 1 week now ... Do I just wait till he resumes and pretend I just heard ?

You said since last week? You should have called on phone to console him. Things like that are better approached with urgency so that it doesn't seem like you don't care.

When you call him, tell him that u heard what happened oh, that he should take heart and that God will console and strengthen him and he should remain strong for his family.

Depending on how close you are with the person, you can still find time to visit him at home. People in that situation need all d love and support they can get

if the deceased is an old man or woman, you say "eku aseinde mama o (or 'baba o', depending on gender of the deceased), olohun a fori jiwon. Omo rere lo ma gbeyin wa o.
If the deceased is a young person, you say "eku ijoko o, e pele o, a o ni ri iru e mo o. Olohun a fori jin"
