Paramount01:The same way you hear negative things about marriage you will also hear the positive things too. If the woman you want to marry is understanding..two of you can work things together and grow in a very short period of time. 3 Likes |

Paramount01:Don't think you have money while your single The single guys with money aren't rich when all you focuses on is yourself. There are other unforseen responsibilities while your single. |

am a young man in his early 30s about to get marry this year,I plan to rent a house and my salary is less than 50k but I have a business I run that I realize 80k monthly Back as from 2010 i was working in one of the largest boutique shop in my neighborhood. I was receiving 30k months. I live in face me i slap you neighborhood But has a girlfriend and she comes frequently to check up on me. One thing lead to another, belle swell up. I was able to gather enough money which I use to rent a shop in the neighborhood. I was selling Naija and foreign movies in the shop. And I was making cool money, i safe 10k every day in my account. In a month I realized about 300k. I went on to rent a new house of about 150k a year. And today, I am enjoying the choices i made. You can never know how to swim by standing outside the ocean. 4 Likes 1 Share |

I don't really think so. The rule is maximum of 3 months of your salary should pay your rent and you are within range. |
Re: Am I Not Spending Above My Means? by Nobody: 4:28pm On Mar 18, 2022 |
As a married man, it won't be enough because other bills and expenses in between will not enable you to save 200k within a year and before you know it, one year has elapsed. If your woman was working, it would have been a bit fair. mind you, the children will soon start pouring in. So make sure you're prepared. I'm living alone and earn more than you but still e no reach me. The economy is not smiling o. |
Re: Am I Not Spending Above My Means? by baby124: 4:57pm On Mar 18, 2022 |
Just assume you earn 100k a month from both. Plus or minus. If your house rent is 25-30% of your income, you are doing ok and living within your means. 200k annually is ok. Make sure you save another 30% for emergency and use the remaining 40% for running household. In the 30% for emergency, save some for projects you and your wife can start. Like buying small land to build a house. |

baby124: Easier said than done. Not with the constant inflation in the economy that keeps dwarfing the ever stagnant income will this your analysis work. Before you know it, landlord will increase his rent. Let's stop deceiving ourselves. E no reach |

Please wait a little longer while u save.. and while she finished her service. ... It's not cool handing all your earnings to the landlord... You are clearly not ready financially buddy... What u are jumping into required money... Electricity, water rate, other bills.. grocery etc with that kind of paycheck.. and she's not working.. Thank goodness u did not mention immediate family members commitment... That would have been suicidal.. 3 Likes |

It’s not about renting an apartment for 200k, it’s if you can still rent it when the rent is due. I personally think you’re overreaching. Because you can afford it doesn’t mean you should. So start with something small, but comfortable. There should be nice places for 150k and lesser and you should stick to that. You’ll be less worried about rent if it’s just a month’s income. Rent the apartment. Reside there ALONE for a minimum of one year. At the end of the 12th month, ask yourself whether you still want to get married immediately. If you've never lived alone, you may never understand the cost of living. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Paramount01:E be like say you wan die early, your woman is not working and you want to go and rent a 200k apartment but what you realize in a month is 130k. Make sure she has a job and contribute 40% to the house otherwise, na early grave you dey see so My advice to young guys please have money before you venture into a relationship, she might stay but you still need the money to keep it going. Relationships/marriage are like old cargo trains that uses charcoal to function. You have to be ready to give in something. I don talk my own finish ooo . 2 Likes |

Sometimes, I think the issue isn't getting married while earning lowly but birthing children immediately after marriage and most times doing so indiscriminately. Reason being that as a married man especially with a child(ren), it becomes tougher to improve your work skills or take another job that might involve relocating to another state or place. Going forward, our people have to be more logical when making decisions rather than being emotional. Although, I concede that how things are done in Nigeria sometime defies logic. with the current economic situation, you are not serious for conceiving the idea of marriage. |

I think the rent is reasonable considering how expensive housing is now. That’s even cheap. Where can you truly find better accommodations for cheaper than that? OP two people have given you great advice here. 1) move in by yourself and live there for 6 months to a year and see if you still think you want to get married. 2) Get married, wait a few years before kids and the responsibilities that come with them. That will give you and your wife chance to work and save so that when the kids start coming, it won’t be a big hit. I like number two. Good luck. 1 Like 1 Share |

cococandy:there was a survey for women asking them if they would want to wait for a number of years before giving birth to kids or give birth immediately when married. Over 90percent said they would want to give birth immediately. So you see that one wey you dey yarn say make the woman wait for few years, lai lai e no go work ooooooo. Married woman no like condom. |
Re: Am I Not Spending Above My Means? by cococandy(f): 7:15am On Mar 23, 2022 |
Cutehector: 1) There are other forms of birth control. 2)And if she can’t wait, she should be ready to struggle to provide for the kids alongside the husband 3)Or go for a financially ready man. 1 Like |

cococandy: Hmm A frugal person like myself is always pissed at how my management methods simply do not work with family. I can use a Tin of milk for a month, but with the fam, it is gone in less than 2 weeks if I'm lucky. When they traveled for Xmas, it was like old times when I would buy things and they would last as long as expected When we got married, I think we held off for 9 months to a year before our first child. And relavtives were asking - what's happening? There is always pressure on the lady to take in. And when this does not happen all the whispering about barrenness starts. And family can go completely native and say and do things no one will come back from |

GloriousGbola: She should be willing to turn deaf ears on people like that. They will always exist and their existence amounts to no good except to look for trouble. If one has goals and a plan, they can and should be willing to turn deaf ears to distractions to achieve their end goal. Womb watchers will never stop existing. (I’ve been called barren on this forum because I wasn’t popping out children every year). Can’t let nonsense like that spoil personal goals and plans. I wish OP’s fiancé was being advised alongside OP 1 Like |
