I am not interested in what was banked. My main interest is on the FCR attained. I am a fish farmer too. I have attained 1.2 and 1.3 in the past using Ecofloat.

Thanks for the compliment , eco float is a good feed . Try increasing your pond spacing compared to stocking density if that is done with good feeding you will achieve greater results

How come you used 1650 bags to feed 5000 catfish from juveniles stage. 100bags is enough to feed 1000 catfish for 10 months, which means you need 500 bags to feed 5000 fishes for the same period. I'm really confused with the number of bags you used

fishes are not calculated by no of months you feed but no of feed weight consumed when I started out this my target was for 2kg and about and I met the target and more I have videos of where I did 1000 fishes for 7 months clarias and what I used was 216 bags on a 2kg target so the main thing that affects your no of bags are : do you feed your fishes to satisfaction.
Are you managing your feed.
What is your target weight for sale
How good is your pond
How clean is the water inside your pond
What's the water ph level

If you are using a tight pond , the fishes will not eat well , if you are managing the feed the weight gain on your fishes will be low and then they will not eat much , if your pond water is not neat the fishes will not eat well and will not grow well , if you have a fluctuating pH it will affect their eating ability so that someone managed 100 bags on 1000 fishes doesn't mean the fishes did well you can find out what was the weight of the fishes during sell that will give you a clearer picture

Good luck on your success I achieved mine in 7 months and I had a minimum weight of 2.2 kg and l had a max weight of 4.8 but also I had less than 4% on 1 kg , their feeding varied sometimes they eat 1 and half bags sometimes 2 bags of feed , and I normally fed them morning and evening and that harvest was a success the video is on the YouTube channel

As a beginner it pays you to understand the demand in your environment before stocking to avoid had I known

CANNIBALISM IN CATFISH FARMING

Cannibalism is catfish farm is the act of fishes eating one another in the same pond and this is a very dangerous occourance that can deplit the no of fishes stocked at a time in a pond.

Like we were discussing Cannibalism is very dangerous in the pond however it's not unusual because fishes are cannibalistic in nature .
But we can always reduce the effect of this act on the fishes , sometimes you may notice a fish that is weak and next time you will not see it again in the pond you maybe thinking that it well only for you to see the skull bone during changing of water .

The case in an Earthen pond is worse because you may never see it until the day you are selling and pump out the whole water as can been on the pics below. The fish in that pic could have weighed more than 2 kg if alive but unfortunately it was eaten .

Apart from the fact that fishes are cannibals in Nature there some situations that can increase their chances of this act , they include but not limited to ;

SPACING : when the pond spacing is tight it gives opportunity for the fishes to injure one another and the sight of open wound increases chances of cannibalism.

INTRODUCING SMALLER FISHES TO BIGGER ONES : it's not wise introducing younger fishes to a pond , what happens is that the older ones will feast on the these new ones introduced as feed especially if the age disparity is very wide

INJURIES : It's always good to keep the pond safe avoid anything that will form obstacle in the pond , people using Earthen ponds should avoid tree trunks, people using tapolin and concrete ponds should avoid throwing in harmful objects inside the pond .

DELAY FEEDING : For whatever reason feeding should not be delayed especially morning feed , this is because when fishes are hungry naturally they will make one of their types prey and the story will not be good.

AVOID GIVING THEM FRESH MEATS : Some famers like to feed their fishes with fresh oncooked meat, intestine and alot while this is not bad idea but avoid giving it to them on regular basis because if giving them on regular basis it stimulus their appetite to such consumption and when not available the each theirselves

REMOVE WEAK FISH IN THE POND : Anytime you notice a fish is weak and not moving as expected its very good to remove it from the pond and move it to a separate place and allow it recover because once other fishes notice that a fish is not very active they will likely eat that fish

There are many other reasons but let's stop here for this discussion, however when you notice that your fishes are been canibalised regularly try and :

SORT THE FISHES : try and immediately sort the fishes into bigger and smallers sizes this helps you to reduce the attack on the biggers ones by the smaller ones .

REMOVE ANY OBSTACLE IN THE POND: Check and see if their are tree trunks, broken objects , remove them immediately.

REMOVE THE WEAK FISH: once you notice that any fish is not swimming fast please remove it from the pond to avoid others devouring it .

IMPROVE YOUR FEEDING : Try and improve your feeding because most times its sterving that triggers cannibalism if they are very well feed they will not have the strength to cannibalize another fish .

Skretting is very good use it from juvenile to 2 months then you can switch to blue crown but the main secret is ability to feed your fishes until they are satisfied
