It depends how much countries hold in Rubles. If the countries don't have enough - it means they can't buy gas and oil (presumably excepting anything already agreed/contracted in £,$ etc). For Putin - his economy is in free fall - this could (temporarily) increase the value of the Ruble.

It means countries will have to buy Rubles from others, thereby driving up the price. It would be the same impact as Russia buying Its own currency - but because of its foreign reserves being frozen it can't do. This is less of a retaliation and more a necessity for Russia.

Sovereignty is sacrosanct, and sadly, only few countries are truly Sovereign.

The rule of thumb used to determine truly Sovereign countries are any country the west hate with burning passion, AND will do/support anything to break it internally and externally. Russia is one, then China, Iran and Syria. Before it was Libya, but its been defeated. You can argue that some of these countries are poor, and you're probably right. But a golden prison is still a prison. Freedom is priceless.

The US was heavily reliant on Venezuelan oil much more than they are to Russia today, that didn’t stop them from getting sanctioned. the US is also top 3 biggest oil producers, their reliance is based on their population and clean energy which Russia doesn’t give a f about. If the US wants to play dirty international politics and not give a F about our environment, they can cut off Russia’s gas to Europe from Russia.

Quarter already got a deal to Supply the Germans, who else can Russia rely on to buy their oil? China or India? that will only send Russia’s oil to the pits.

It’s not a matter of finding gas, anybody/country can do that. It’s about completion and production. That takes resources including technology, financial and most especially time. Can the EU afford 1 year without Russian gas? The answer is no.

The US is fast tracking their LNG development and shipment to counter Russian competitive advantage in Europe. The question at the end of the day will come to pricing. Can the US compete with Russia based on Logistic pricing? Vessel logistics vs. piping
