Straight to the point.....most Nigerian workers are lazy, think in short term, dishonest and greedy....am still in my 20s but I know this first hand from doing business in this goddammed country called Nigeria, thing is you don't just have to deal with the hostile business environment and practically 0 support from the government (except you know someone) but also deal with with workers who would steal and even try to sabotage your business. We can blame government all we want but one of the reasons africa isn't progressing is because of the mentality of workers(funny enough they seem to change this mentality when they move abroad) and in order for one to be profitable in this country you must be ruthless and handle these workers with iron fist just like the Chinese business owners in Nigeria do to their workers, I've learnt alot from some of these Chinese, Indian and Lebanese business people and how they're surviving in Nigeria despite the fact that most businesses are leaving.....the truth of the matter is the ruthlessness and strict methods of business that enables them survive but some mumu sitting in one office will call it toxic work place because they want to gain woke points.....you steal from your bosses, try to sabotage their business, perform poorly in you duties and expect not to have a toxic workplace.....most be moving mad. Anyways forgive my ranting.....the whole "toxic workplace nonsense" is just annoying me.

The problem are majorly the so called boss. Lots of them don't know how to treat their workers.

If you are paying your workers the real value of the task they are doing for you and also get friendly with them, they should behave well.

That reminds me of a boy that was running my viewing center for me back then, initially the guy was delivering well until he started diverting the money. So I deliberately visited one day, viewed the number of people watching mat ch, there was a big match that day, have an idea of how much to expect and left.

When he came at night and saw the morning he brought, I initially counted the money, give him his own share plus extra self then ask him, do you want me to get another person to replace you as you have been cheating, he was genuinely sorry cos I explained to him how him stopping working would affect him financially.

Ever since that day during the time the centre was running, he came back to his senses and delivering well. Win win for both parties.

I see tangent points in what you said but the fact that you were paying him a salary both of you agreed upon but he still decided to steal from you is exactly what am talking about and the only reason he was sorry and seemed to repent is because he got caught...... it's that inbuilt desire to be dishonest even when they're being paid their salary without delay that really gets to me....Nigerian business people are already doing something positive for the country by providing jobs and still have to deal with the tough business environment yet people expect them to act heavenly with dishonest workers.

This is not about Nigerians or blacks, it is human nature.. It's natural

You and others like you are truely the problem of Nigeria, you talk about working abroad,do you know that ordinary bullying is a big crime in Europe and America.

If an employee is lazy and not doing his job well, best you can do is sack him, when he steals, get him arrested and sack him. What you wish for others will soon locate you.

Don't mind the OP, they say money is intoxicating, most of them become very wicked because they have little money and they think unemployed Nigeria youths should lick their ass for that.

I worked for a man for about 3-4 months.
I never stole his money, controlled the shop like the manager(the manager wasn't available most times, the man knew about it), he never had issues with me and I never owed any cash..

Second month, I asked for my salary, he was like " I should calm down, that he will settle me" and was giving me flimsy excuses.
Third month, the same thing.

At the fourth month, he and his cousin blackmailed(that it is because of me that the company was on debt, whereas every credit owed under was paid, they were using it to hold my salary) me and I quit the Job, without a dime as a salary..

Op, in as much as there are are ungrateful employees, that does not rule out the fact that there are a wicked and ungrateful employers naturally.. Even if you handle them with iron hand, who will steal from you, will do it....

After having such experience, I make sure I read the environment and kind of person I will be working with before I apply.
