Glad to see this thread still making progress. If you are interested in data science tutorials and/or lectures at beginner to intermediate level, watch out for this space smiley. I'll be offering a series of lectures in the coming months for those interested who want to transition or stay motivated. Lectures may be paid though, cos my observation from giving free lectures is that they hardly make any significant impact.
Hmmm ……..
Make it free!!!

I just sat for the PL-300: Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Exam. I passed. I scored 725. Next up - SQL

Good morning everyone. I really want to appreciate everyone in this page. Came across it last month and I've never been so motivated. I've been able to get a PC, some of the materials recommended here. Right now, I'm learning excel. Still trying to balance it out with work. Hearing that others like me are putting in the effort to be better, is enough motivation for me. So, I just want to say thank you to all of you.
PS. If you're new to the thread, try to start from the beginning. Take note of the recommended courses. Source for them online.

already started my journey into data science, prior before now I had a mentor(my cousin) who is a data scientist in Australia who talked extensively on data science and gave various tools necessary. So I brushed through excel by taking some course like analysing data using excel and other courses on Edx(videos) then currently learning sql using sql server express learnt basics using w3schools and sqlzoo which am done, practicing using ssms and sample database like(adventureworks and northwind) so refreshing. Also I have some PDFs book having questions and problem from beginner to advance on the sample database listed, once am done I will also take some courses on edX. Afterwards would move into python and other tools.

just wanted to share my journey for the past one month. thanks Ejiod and other contributors.

if you are also on this journey into the world of data science quote me, let's relate

Hi everyone,

So I actually have an interview on Monday. I am applying for the role of a Data analyst/Scientist. Please can anyone who is experienced in that field or an HR here tell me the kind of questions to expect. I will really be grateful. Thank you.

For data science questions:

1st thing 1st, make sure you have a project you can walk them through on how you build your model.

read on implementation of end to end machine learning model from data collection, EDA, feature selection, feature engineering, model selection, training of the model, hyper parameter tuning and model deployment.

Read on performance metrics like confusion, matrix, f1_score, accuracy and precision for classification model and mea squared error and root mean squared error for regression.

Clearly state the difference between regression and classification problem.

Also read on Unsupervised learning and use case. For instance Kmean algorithm for Segmentation.

Read on Dimensional curse in ML and how to correct them with PCA

How to remove outliers

How to treat imbalance datasets.

Then some Python basics syntax with focus on numpy, pandas and visualization tools like seaborn and matplotlib.

I wish you the best of luck

Hi for the update, I got the job offer. During the interview I felt quite uneasy and nervous at the start. I was given the company data to work on and provide certain insights. I tried using MySQL to query the data and obtain certain pattern since the data was not clean at all. MYSQL failed me lols, so I ended up using POWERBI to do whole stuff. I have been waiting to share this news untill they get back to me. Thanks you all, I wish us all the very best!

Nice one! Did you have to pay to take the exam or do you have to pay for the certification?

Through this thread, I was motivated to start learning excel and Sql (through youtube and web materials), I can say I can comfortable use both to some extent. Hoping to be good in those before moving to Tableau and then Python. However, I am having issue on how I can start to put what I've learnt into use.

For Instance, I've got Data files on Airline performance from 1987 to 2008, I am to analyze and treat this data, they are about for 22 files with each having over 1 million rows of record. I'm not sure if I should import these files through Excel -Data- Query, merge them(this may be too large for excel) and try to make sense out of it, or I need to find a way to get the files into PostgreSQL. I will appreciate comments on the process to treat a data like this or how to start with it.

Lastly, I am looking for a mentor or coach, someone who is already in the field, I don't mind discussing terms. Things are easier for me when I have access to someone I can ask this questions whenever I'm stuck.

Thanks wink

This is more like it:

a = []
x= input()
while ''.join(x.split('0'))!='':
try:
d = int(x)
a.append(d)
except:
print( "Not a number" )
break
x = input()
print(a)

That's not a good way to write the function

Excel Power pivot should handle that or powerbi. If the files are in csv you could import them into sql server or mysql.
