If I have any need to spend a night in a hotel in ogun state,I will rather look for any nearby church that is having thier night vigil and join them.
I cannot forget my NYSC experience in Ijebu Omu in ogun state in 2000.
Went to my place of primary assignment at Govt college Ketu in Epe LGA.
The school was not in session and because it was getting late,I cannot get a vehicle back to Lagos.
I was directed to a polytechnic in a nebouring village Ijebu Omu which is in ogun state which I later discovered to be on vacation too.
A villager volunteered to assist me being corper in uniform which also clearly indicated that I am a stranger and took me to a nearby hotel for lodging in that village.
On arrival to the so called hotel which looks more like a village square meeting point.it was like a grave yard,local Yoruba music was playing in the reception/bar but no single soul .
While we were calling the barman or receptionist to come and attend to me,I saw a giangantic picture of the owner of the hotel in his ogboni fratanity regalia positioned at the bar.
My blood freezed & that was how I cancelled my intention to lodge.
My only option was to follow the good Samaritan villager to his family house where I passed the night.
Mind u by then no mobile phone yet.
In this community,it is strange not to see a shrine or idol in almost any compound u enter.
Anyway,I thank God for my life.
