You are talking from scientific aspect...... beside in that scientific aspect...we do accept both as the same too. In the color band....
In certain reaction.....some other colour name is substituted for black and dark.

Take for instance the reaction between H2So4 and cellulose (or glucose and it's complex chains)......the color it gives off is "char colour"........ it's still black but this name was adopted to proof that there's no definite name.

In general universal truth black and dark are the same thing

Remember an electromagnetic wave exhibit a "dual character".
So even this black color may reflect a little light in a favorable condition.

Same to dark as a color. A dark material may not be able to reflect any light wave that falls on it in certain condition
