Substandard coaches yes, even refurbished trains yes, but can someone tell this Baboon that the train was derailed (rail line bombed and damaged by the marauding bandits?) A sophisticated train won't take off to the sky but would also derail given same circumstances. The issue raised by the thieving minister was that of security surveillance systems and how the idea was shot down by fellow thieves due to the thieving formulas, disparities in political calculations and conflict of interests amongst others.

It baffles me how most nigerians reason (na my brother dey there, let am chop mentality). These same people will be wondering why nigeria is still battling with electricity generation issue.

The company's turnover is 85 million or so. As in, all the job they have undertaken over the past 3 years sum up to 85 million naira. This is enough to let one know that they have only been working on 5 million naira jobs like fixing CCTV for single houses. How can such a company be given a 3 billion naira job of national importance that has to do with protecting citizens from terrorists... It is like giving a national electrification job to a local household electrician when there are trusted companies like Siemens and co.

if one wants to help such small companies that have only been taking on 5 million naira and lesser works, one can start by awarding them 20-30 million naira contract. When they perform excellently, they can then be awarded a similar buy higher value contract in the range of 100-200 million. You can't just jump to collecting billions of naira job over night. You have to prove your competence.

That's not the bone of contention. Rather the family thing is cited as another dubious issue about the company.

The main issue is that the company has nil requisite history of operation in the sector it wanted to secure a contract in.

Let's be sensible. Would you let your local car mechanic or supermarket cashier perform a c-section on your only daughter rather than insist on a qualified and proven surgeon?

Precisely. Small companies should build their capacity, portfolio and experience so they can grow to attract patronage from really demanding customers.

That is how it must be in a merit-based system. You cannot set up a company today to then be handed vital security contracts for serious nations we all know normally only demand tried and tested hand.

That crap only happens in Nigeria. Hence our backwardness.
