Perhaps, Perhaps not undecided
When you have a player like Messi who does the job of an AM and striker almost effortlessly, you let him conserve energy for when he has the ball so he can do his thing...

You see Messi running at full speed and taking out defenders in the dying minutes of the game like someone who was just substituted in. Bro, it's down to the freedom the coaches gives him...He doesn't need to track back or chase the opponents (even I have seen him doing so many a times) just so he can have the energy to do his thing when it matters most...

After averaging 40+ goals and assists those seasons, you still want a defensively useless 5 ft player to track back and help defenders?

So if Messi had join Pique and co to defend or tracked back, it would have prevented those defeats??

Oga, enjoy your revival and stop capping rubbish about Messi.
Modern game is all about solidarity amongst the players in terms of pressing and tracking back. There is alot of energy involved now. Even counter attacking teams all pull back and counter with great pace and speed when they get the chance.

In the last 6 years, we fell off the pinnacle of European football because we lacked cohesion and solidarity amongst the players. Some players begun to see themselves bigger than the team. You have to press and attack as a cohesive unit. Everyone has to help out in defending otherwise you're toast.

Scoring 40+ goals is no longer enough. Mbappe will score up to 40 goals this season but he will only end up winning Ligue 1 title.

Moulding and worshipping demi-gods in form of players no longer cut it. Fast paced football is now the way to go. You have to press and press your opponent to surrender.

Fortunately for us, #XaviBall is helping to recover what we have lost. Next season, we will be back where we belong.

Absolute BS!
That guy is one person that should be ignored.

He always wants to be the first person to be seen and the last person as well.

All of a sudden, he posted a picture of Xavi with the caption "The bla bla bla" when the atmosphere had shifted to a different kind of argument, though the argument is not the purpose of the thread, it is an argument that would naturally subside after a short period.

He, however, must force his assertion.

Imagine taking a swipe at the greatest player in the history of football just because of a promising group which is yet to win anything and unproven against the bigwigs of Champions League football.

This guy does things to provoke negative reactions from people and then turns back calling them half baked fans of the club.

He is the only true fan, and that's not arrogance.

Such disrespect of the GOAT.

A rabble rouser, maybe.

I don't know how you formulate this in your head "Messi doesn't track back or press" ….the same Messi that I hv watched for over 14 years??

100% disagree.

Why do you think we became a laugh amongst European football in the last 6 years, even with Messi still playing AM and striker and scoring bagful of goals?

I have seen Messi, totally aloof and unbothered, walking in the pitch while the team was under immense pressure. It is attitude problem with him and others. Everything is not about scoring mountains of goals. You score 4 - 0 in the first leg and lose 5 - 0 in the second. What is the point in that?

Yes we have moved on from that sordid era, but I can't forgive it. Busquets, Alba and Pique has stayed back to redeem their battered image. Unfortunately for Messi, Suarez and co, they no longer have such opportunity.

I assume that's 'dominance' which was centered on the brilliance of Messi.

Go and watch Pep's Barca, Messi was never tasked with tracking back to recover possession or press defenders just so he can be at his optimum level whenever he gets the ball thus while the opponents tired out, Messi was still able to operate at a very high level due to the reason above.

I am surprised that for a supposed Barca fan you are not aware that it's a strategy employed by coaches to ensure Messi is at his best at any point in a game.

You can go back to read up on what Nasri said when Pep arrived Manchester City newly just so you have a clue...

But you/they focus on Messi.

The defense became shit and the midfield was nothing to write home about as Busi and Rakitic began to age...Imagine replacing Alves with Semedo, Mascherano/Puyol with Lenglet after Umtiti suffered that injury that rendered him useless, Rakitic with Arthur, Iniesta with Coutinho that didn't just workout...

If you follow your club, you'd pin the collapse over over the past few seasons on the incompetence of Bartomeu as he is at the center of every wrong decision made in recruiting players and mangers alike...

Most of you here dont know when to ignore JP. He's that kind of person that will only see from one perspective of footballing view and not the other, especially not recognizing that there are players who do well with conservating energy for attacks, pressing from the front than defense.

Imagine him trolling a player who has been the pinnacle of our attack for years, covering midfield lapses by playing so deep that you'd wonder if he was a CM or a forward, yet still had the most assists and goals for the team. Somehow, it now rests on him to defend after doing all that work because JP wants it to be so.

You guys have the time to even start with him. Some of us here already know he can't be redeemed so we just let him pipe on with his obscure analysis.

It's okay he left finally and the team is doing well but he could have left much better.

Everybody else tries to forget about Messi and focus on the team and be happy with the progress so far.

But Jp always has an indirect slander on Messi from time to time,..

Fortunately for me, I am not part of the playing staff. So I can gloat all I want and slander anyone I want.

Messi is the GOAT but he is no longer part of our squad. When I criticise him, I am squarely referring to the period after our treble under Enrique. I know this is not a popular discussion here but someone has to say them nonetheless.

I am not part of your cheerleaders who saw nothing wrong with our performances after the treble till now. I cannot criticise that era without mentioning Messi. He was the captain and we went through the worst period in recent times.

I am speaking about our success within that period. In case you don't know, Ronaldo's team won multiple UCL within this period you are referring to while we suffered multiple untold embarrassments in the UCL.

Messi left because Barca could no longer pay him. Even though he took 50% paycut, he would still be earning over 40 million euros, which the club still could not pay. This one wasn't about what made anyone happy, it was about common sense.

Dropping deep is not what I am talking about.

Question is what do you do when the team does not have the ball? How do you press as a cohesive unit? How do you react when the team was under immense pressure?

Some of us here like tespidd would rather have the team continue to struggle and become useless so that he could be proven right that this team cannot do well without Messi, at least not until another 4 or 5 years.

Pathetic if you ask me.

Well, #XaviBall proves that we can become a better team even without Messi.

Many of us love Messi but try not to bring him up directly or indirectly when talking about our team because he has moved on.

We only talk about him when madridiots try to slander him here.

It's only convenient that a forward's off the ball pressing and movement should be against the opposition amd if there's a need to track back, let others who contribute lesser than what Messi fo in attack do that.

That said, in this kind of Xavi setup, there's no denying that Messi would press and that from the back too, but it won't be too often because even oppositions would be scared to completely dash forward knowing fully well the kind of danger they can face if we get the ball.

messi is no longer our player....he's now wearing jersey NO_30 playing 4 PShit.

you guys forget how messi almost caused a civil war in Barca when luis enrique left him on the bench against la real?
meanwhile , zizou @ d other end found a way to bench ronaldo in not so important laliga match especially when they have a midweek ucl knock-out match!
End result, madrid won 3 successive ucl trophy while barca were thrashed by juve, roma, liverpool e.t.c.

the same messi went to xenophobic South Africa to participate in a useless friendly match forcing valverve to leave him out of d squad in d match against levante due 2 jetlag.
end result = levante knack us 5~4 abi 4-3 and our invicible league run ended.

She can be African and still be favoured. She's been winning it for long.
Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift that bagged numerous awards last year were Americans and there was shouts of Favouritism. There's always a pint of Favouritism In awards shows almost every year. So I'm well within bounds if I made that claim.

And

Anyways dem don give who dem wan give award. I no be FC fan sef, so make I rest. We try again next year. Most likely we go see new winner since she won't be dropping album. undecided
Lemme go and check the full list of winners and nominees.
I don't know about Taylor Swift but Billie dominates a genre that there isn't much competition.

Dark pop genre is arguably in her pockets.

You have to understand that some genre are more competitive than others.

That's why those orchestra conductors and jazz/classical musicians may have as high as 10 Grammys with over 50 nominations with less than 500k followers across all social platforms.

So it isn't always about your popularity or number of streams (who the hell streams orchestra or symphony). But dominating your genre.

The person with the most Grammys I'm pretty sure nobody knows him but he is a master of Opera music.

So the Grammy is very diverse from the most conventional artist with all their paparazzi and tmz to the most gifted instrumentalist that can play all known musical piece with finesse but can't sell out the O2 arena, the Grammys recognizes them all..

That being said, I have to concede that there is an epitome of truth in your analogy that African music is being stereotyped, if you aren't singing about bad government or hungry children than your music isn't African enough.
