Ukraine report their casualties too. they may downplay it but often time their reporting is true. for example the shelling of the military base where soldiers train.

Ukraine is not going to fight Russia on a battlefield, they are ambushing them. most times they let them take a region, then slowly ambush them.

you have to ask yourself why russia cant advance into key areas or even take kiev?

My analysis is that Russia wants to kill off opposition plus get NATO off Ukraine. Objective largely achieved so Russia dont need Kiev.
