adenigga:Good move. I wonder what excuse one could have to have yet to link his/her link till now. Both outgoing and incoming calls should be blocked |

Gireiboy:First thing is that the government isn't telling the truth. Thr first and most important step is to reveal the identity of those sponsoring Boko Haram (bandits, Fulani herdsmen are all BH) and bring them to justice. This shockingly includes governors, senators, etc. Bring them and their collaborators in the military to justice and let fear grip all of them. After this we can talk. They know what to do but don't want to do it. The common man believes in Nigeria than those thieving murderous politicians. The president knows to the very last dot, all the people involved in this; the DSD gives him secret updates that he alone has access to. They are not serious. When they are serious we will know. |

adenigga:Failed government always find an excuse to blame others, how is NIN linkage of sim can help track down kidnappings? Don’t go and give order to the whole security agencies to do joint operation to crack down on bandits via air ground assault even involves the NAVY , you didn’t need NIN linkage to find IPOB and ESN, make we stop to Dey deceive ourselves even if the whole Nigerians decided to link their sim kidnapping and banditry will still be going on |

Do they know that the kidnappers use their victims's lines to ask for ransom?. That defeats the purpose of tracking down the terrorists with their SIM/NIN adenigga: |

Theunbothered:Just seeing this. When there is a crime case, phone numbers involved can be traced to check the NIN linked to them. There are several crimes that people commit and the knowledge that they could be identified through NIN would make a certain percentage not even perpetrate such crime in the first place |

NaughtyBrainiac:But the police can already track phone calls and locations without NIN in cooperation with the network providers, that is how they found Uduak the organ harvester. That aside if you get kidnapped and the kidnapper uses your device to call, how will the police know the NIN of the kidnapper? Will the kidnapper tell everyone he sees his NIN? Even in other cases how will they know someone has committed a crime using NIN unless they already had a suspect? Do you think implementing these measures without improving the economy will have a practical effect on the crime rate? |

Theunbothered:Please note that there are several other crimes apart from Kidnapping. There are some people that just sit in their rooms, make calls and send text messages to unsuspecting Bank customers just to wipe their accounts. People use phone numbers for crime and abandon the numbers after committing crime. People like that can now be identified using NIN. |
| Re: NIN-SIM Linkage: FG Directs Telcos To Bar Outgoing Calls On Unlinked Lines by Theunbothered: 7:38pm On Apr 04, 2022 |
NaughtyBrainiac:This is a myth, I have never heard of anyone losing money from a simple phone call unless they told the scammers their bank details. In any case you already have caller ID which displays information on these people. Also shouldn't BVN have stopped all this from happening? People use phone numbers for crime and abandon the numbers after committing crime. People like that can now be identified using NIN.Crimes such as? If you already have the physical phone or number why do they need NIN to track the person? |
| Re: NIN-SIM Linkage: FG Directs Telcos To Bar Outgoing Calls On Unlinked Lines by NaughtyBrainiac: 8:02pm On Apr 04, 2022 |
Theunbothered:That's the essence of the word "unsuspecting". They definitely divulge their card details. Whether they divulged or not. The perpetrators are still Criminals. Caller ID doesn't display accurate info. I can manipulate caller ID to display whatever I want it to display. That's a discussion for another day. BVN cannot stop Criminals from calling and defrauding unsuspecting Bank customers. NIN can easily be used to declare someone wanted and also to track further in cases where the criminal has abandoned the SIM. |

NaughtyBrainiac:But more criminals have been caught using caller ID than NIN, which has yet to catch one criminal or victim. BVN cannot stop Criminals from calling and defrauding unsuspecting Bank customers.BVN was meant to track stolen funds and prevent users with multiple accounts from laundering money. By the way how many fraudulent calls has the NIN Sim linkage prevented? NIN can easily be used to declare someone wanted and also to track further in cases where the criminal has abandoned the SIMYou don't decleare unknown persons wanted, if you are declaring someone wanted you must have have basic information like their pictures, name, work or family background already linking them with the crime. You can have everyone's data but if you don't have clear evidence linking people to crimes then it is a worthless endeavour. Concerning the bolded you already are saying in plain English that you have already matched a crime to a specific suspect. Also how often do you see criminals abandon their SIMS at a crime scene? How would you know which sims are active or not unless you already had a suspect? Altogether this makes me wonder, what new information does the NIN provide that those investigating don't already have? |

Gravity56:Just imagine the guts of these yeye ministers! You bring out a policy,; staff under the NIMC turn it into an exploitation exercise, the citizens complain, and your ministry does absolutely nothing about it in over a year! Despite glaring evidences against these thieves, not one staff was arrested and thrown in jail. Yet, you have the temerity to accuse poor Nigerians of not parting with their 5k for a policy that adds nothing tangible to their lives. As I write, there are a good number who went through the stress, lost their money to the fraud called NIMC , tried linking their lines as instructed, but whose NIN still hasn't been verified or linked, simply because the bloody NIMC doesn't do its bloody job! Make dem sha try block those ones' lines and see crazy. Shebi na lawsuits dem dey find?? Dem go get am laslas! In saner climes, Pantami and the DG of NIMC would have been sacked for dereliction of duty and for putting Nigerians under untold hardship. But well, this is Nigeria, where anything goes - even daylight exploitation! Brand new day, why dem never still block am? Fools running the nation exactly like fools do. God punish dem all.. |

Theunbothered:Criminals are not caught using caller ID. Caller ID is even far from being a solid intelligence resource. Like I said earlier, caller ID can be manipulated to show whatever one wants it to show. You mentioned that NIN has not caught criminals, why would it catch criminals when lines without NIN have been working effectively. Will a criminal rush to link NIN to a SIM he uses for crime when he knows that the deadline would eventually be extended? Furthermore, when SIMs without NIN stop working, most criminals would not use SIMs that have their NIN linked for criminal activities. They will begin to find alternatives. Crime cannot be completely eradicated but putting in place strategies that make crime very difficult is a very stupendous step towards crime reduction. As to declaring someone wanted, there are several ways law enforcement go about it and there are several steps. You seem to be looking at crime from just one angle. You mentioned that how often do criminals abandon their SIM at a crime scene. That's not what I meant when I said if a criminal abandons his SIM. You mentioned that a criminal can be tracked with his phone or SIM and I replied that with NIN, a criminal doesn't have to be with his SIM before getting his details. Overall, We don't have a database in Nigeria and NIN will go a long way in helping us achieve a reasonable fit. |
