RRS STOPS 67-YEAR-OLD MAN FROM JUMPING INTO LAGOON ON HIS BIRTHDAY

Officials of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on patrol of 3rd Mainland Bridge this afternoon stopped a 67 – year old man from leaping into the Lagoon on his birthday.

The elderly man, who gave his name as Oluwatoye Bamgboye, from Oju – Ore, Ogun State, was attempting to jump into the Lagos Lagoon inward Lagos Island when the officers stopped him.

He disclosed that a personal challenge made him sell his house, land and car. With that, he still couldn’t solve the problem. He got a loan and the problem still persisted.

He explained further that, he secured a job and on the resumption date, he was informed that the job had been given to someone else.

“Today being my birthday, I have decided to end it all. The burden and the frustration is too much for me to bear.

My wife has abandoned me in the process”.

He has been conveyed to Adekunle Police Station, where efforts are in progress to contact his family members.

Naija hard but killing yourself shouldn’t be an option. Consider the torture your family would go through for losing you.
To anyone reading this and contemplating suicide, calm down and hope for the best. Na all of us naija dey happen to.. Even the vampires that brought us to this sorry state ain’t spared. God heal our land.

The level of frustrations in the country is just too much. I hope he will not be arraigned in court by the Nigeria police for attempting to take his life. Nigeria Police can be funny sometimes ...

Irrespective of whether you condemn suicide or not, it does not change what Suicide is. Neither does it change the Consequences of Suicide.

Suicide is not an Escape route.
Suicide is Murder
Suicide is straight to Hell Fire.

Though there is a lot of despair and suicidal thoughts out there,someone serious of committing suicide won't go to where he could be easily seen and stopped.
I believe this man wanted to create awareness of the hardships he has been facing in life,with the hope some individuals or even the government will come to his aid.
He wasn't planning on actually taking his own life.

Quote me anywhere, a good number of Nigerians who were well to do before this 7-8y years of poverty stricken tenure have once or twice sat down in their quite time to subscribe to SUCIDE. Some couldn't take it anymore that they give up. Only the strong and hopeful still standfit dey wait for the better days.

Those that are contemplating suicide should consider the effect of it both phycological and emotional effect of the relatives....

Suicide is an act of selfishness.. You only consider your own feelings without considering the feelings of those close to you

Kudos to RRS for rescuing him from the suicide mission.
However, what are the plan to prevent subsequent contemplation, to ensure he does not attempt suicide again?

Same thing i thought about when passing the 3rd mainland bridge on Sunday.

Life is hard, life is difficult, nobody understands the pain sometimes.

Nairaland has been one of my best companion, reasons I'm always online.

Only God understand the pain this boy is currently going through.
