I still don't understand why the no work no pay policy is optional. I think it should be automatic, regardless of whether the strike is justified or not.

Why will sectors of the economy be left at the whims and caprices of some people?

I think the regulation should be such that if there is a strike, all parties involved must lose something, and that is why efforts will be made to avert it making it the last option.

A situation where workers are free to just go on strike and all their salaries paid at the end of the day is a very wrong practice because they have nothing to lose.

Infact, they even enjoy more benefits because they don't go to work and might have used the opportunity for some side hustle. angry

In your own imagination you think some lectures are happy that students are on strike? You think some of the lectures don't have their wards in Nigerian university? If your opinion should stand then workers will not paid, some will be receiving half payment. Teachers should be made to be receiving half of the amount our Legislature's salaries. Have ever heard that the legislatures are on strike?

honestly am not in support of what the FED govt said but come to think of it, imagine most schools areabout to write exams and some lecturer haven't conduct any test for those student, did you even think about the pressure that will be mounted on those student......I remember that year....infact a lecturer said it categorically that even if I no come work for the whole semester,Federal govt go pay me, so you are the one at the receiving end.

They should better do. 70% of them are greedy and selfish. There is no Job in Nigeria yet you will find a lecturer lecturing in 4 different schools, selling textbooks and handouts(Compulsory). Who do us like this? Most of these Lecturers collect money before you can pass their course, some even sleep with female students.. Yet they present themselves as the victim here. Nonsense.

In situations where the FG defaults in agreements made to Unions, what do you advise unions to do other than going on strikes?

Today, it is Chris Ngige.
Yesterday, it was Emeka Nwajuba.

Both working hand in gloves with their pay master to keep the children of the poor at home.

This Govt na waa ooh! Govt is wasting money paying ransom , couldn't tame those sabotaging our economy but could afflict lecturers who are the custodians of our intellectualism.. they like to enforce people to do what they know is morally wrong and highly repugnant .. what kind of people do we have in Governance? As cerebra as Labour minister is , he talks to people anyhow and lack negotiation capacity same with his education counterpart..

And what do our senators and house of reps do apart from sleeping on duty and giving money to actress and High budget prostitute?
Well, that's not the issue here. But if you are talking about their emoluments and you think it is much, go get a form and contest to be one.

There is no where in the world lecturers are paid as much as lawmakers, no where.

You know why?
They are very few compared to lecturers. The annual emoluments of all the lawmakers both senate and reps is far far less than the salary of lecturers for just one month. Do the arithmetic. So that is a number factor.

Each senator represents at least 1.5 million heads depending on state. Eg, in Kano, 1 Senator represents at least 3 million people at the federal capital.

Based on quota system, how many do you think a lecturer represents?

Lecturers are only for education, and only in the universities. Legislation on education is one of the several job of lawmakers.

I can go on and on, but no need.

Mr man ,the constitution only guaranties the right to peaceful assembly and not STRIKE!

I hope you realise the difference between peaceful assembly (for which we have interestingly included protest) and strike?

The constitution can never encourage people to stop work and still collect salary.

Strike action is dealt with under the labour law.

This news is reported on 28th March, 2022. It has been reported that no University Lecturer under IPPIS has been paid at the time of this report and it is likely that they won't be paid.

I now know how very important was the forced IPPIS to the government in getting hold of ASUU.

Way to go... You claim you're on strike but you're not rejecting salary from government as part of your protest. You're doing your side businesses teaching in private school whereas students are being held in hostage.

Make we dey mad dey go.
