This is one of the reasons unions should be banned. In a free market, drivers who are not satisfied should quit the platform. You can go and do yellow cab if you think you are the reason the platform makes money. People patronise Uber and Bolt not you the driver so organising a cult to force higher fares is devilish and anti-competition. Now they will probably form gangs around to attack Ubers and Bolt drivers that did not join their idiocy.
Read you comment again! Then this time, tell Uber and Bolt to go and Buy their own car and employ their own drivers! Cheap Idiot

Where are you striking to? They will just allow you to strike for 6-weeks, by the time hunger touches you small, you will beg to call off the strike.
You think Nigeria works like the UK?
You think it's only Bolt and Uber that exist?

this one is probably a jjc. All it takes is one report and that your bolt account will be banned forever. Yeye dey smell. You go get sense by force. cheesy

Lmao I hate Bolt's Modus Operandi. I don't have a bolt account and can never drive for Bolt. I've been driving on Uber for over a year now with over 2k trips. You're probably the one that is a JJC.

Impound their vehicles on what grounds? Many of the vehicles on Uber do not meet Uber's minimum standards and Uber looks away. Same with bolt. If you guys are asking for fare increase, they can agree to it and in response demand "strict compliance" with their minimum vehicle standards. For example a lot of the so-called ACs in those Corollas will never pass strict compliance inspection. Or is it the sounds heard from creaking CV joints, or the hard transitions when the gears are shifting? I understand that you guys are asking for and actually need a review in pricing. But ganging up to illegally impound people's vehicles will only get you guys in trouble. You most likely don't have the backing of the government and these multinational businesses have very smooth operators in government circles

We are here to maintain standard, and demand they treat us as Partners, your job as a rider is to report such vehicles when you board and get the App Companies to block the vehicle from their platform, however those sort decisions is what should be discussed as Partners that we are, and in this partnership, we own 95% percent of the stakes and 100% of the risks! Uber and Both are just modernized Agbero, their only Job is to get me a passenger! Then you sit within the comfort of your house and book, I pick you up, drop you off, and you tell me to collect 400 naira??!!!

Do you think the fares will be this ridiculously cheap if Uber and Bolt shared atleast 20% of the repair fees?

Please let's be serious!

The guy gave you a simple solution, turn your bolt or Uber to normal taxi... staying with bolt is a choice, you are not forced, your union is not registered.
The Union is registered hence the TUC signature. So go and rest with your okada. UK protested, South Africa protested, Nigerians will also protest. Nonsense.

Zero engagement with drivers,
Zero relationship with d App companies
Zero awareness
Zero membership drive
Zero support for drivers

The only time we hear your voice is during call for strike.
What makes u think a handful of u guys can sit somewhere and decide what hundreds of thousands of drivers will do?

Am not against strike, but there are many other ways we can make a change in the system. Such as engage all players to fix a particular range of price for the fare.
Ensure verification of Riders and any other challenge we may be having.
Write to them, Fix a date, invite us to attend. If they refuse to agree or the agreement is not honoured then we move to stage two. It's not everything that must be done with fight and quarrel.

What are we doing about Indrive that alows riders fix ridiculous prices and drivers that have been blocked on both Bolt/Uber and are desperate and have no choice but to do trips for these rediculous prices.

As an association which u form by yourselves and appoint yourselves as officers, u are not even known in the biggest thread in Nairaland which is the Uber thread. U are not known in the Facebook group, u are not known for helping drivers get justice when they are cheated or assaulted by riders or help them get compensation when they are robbed or involved in an accident. For me, I think this should be the most important goals and objectives of any partners association. Not calling for unfruitful strikes all the time.
In this business if u strike it will affect drivers too...so u can't be doing strike strike strike everytime. Its not like we r under salary so we can strike for 1month and still receive our pay. So call for strike action should be as a last resort.

Let's think... after the strike, what next? I have been in this business long enough, none of the strikes has ever yielded anything. It is continuous engagement that has brought about all the changes we have had so far.

And all these associations should be harmonized into one with branches in states and zones in all local government areas. So we can drive awareness, engagement and participation. Not forming different different bodies all over.
Less than 5% of drivers are on Nairaland, maybe less have time to check Twitter. Many don't belong to any WhatsApp group so we should be thinking how do we reach out to drivers and partners for programs and events to engage the App companies.
My two cents.

When I saw "entitlement mentality", the phrase which many ignorant Nairaland masochists use to justify their love for being oppressed, I decided to spare myself the trouble of reading your empty post. The right to protest and respect for the worker is part of the reason why many of you travel through the desert to Europe inspite of the many dangers linked to such a sojourn. Keep working hard to retain the 3rd world country status your country is ignobly know for.

I’m not sure the wisdom in expecting Nigerians to support a protest that is designed to increase fares for them. The OP is calling for a 50% fare hike! Why would you expect customers to be thrilled with that?

The same customers buy the same sachet water and patronize the same restaurants you use. And nobody is increasing their salaries for that.

So yes, it’s unsurprising to see the reaction you people are getting

I urge any driver to run you people over and report your injured bodies to the police as attempted kidnappers.

gibberish. That you’re not enlightened is nobody’s fault. Less than 5% are in Nairaland yet you are making noise about the same Nairaland. A union with more than 3000 members in Abuja alone is a big deal with representatives in all major hubs in the federation. NACORP is a made up of different groups all under one umbrella. You don’t know what it takes to be a registered union with TUC.

Please get yourself enlightened and don’t bury your head in Nairaland

True. But basic econometrics will act on it. “The higher the price, the lower the quantity demanded”. These companies know this. You’re the one not informed!

The higher the price the lower the demand and the lower the car usage and the lower the cost of maintenance and the lower the wear and tear of the car and the higher the life span of the car.

I believe is little demand and higher the price, demand doesn't mean more money, it only mean lots of patronage but little patronage can give you enough money if you set good standard..

Look at this one. So if I want to use my personal car to do Uber on my own terms and at my own convenience, you will carry your yeye unionism to come and disturb me? Poverty mentality don damage some of una brain.

This shit is optional. It is not employment, so your so-called labour laws don't apply. Uber or Bolt is not your employer.

There should be proper engagement...if you are one of the members or an Exco then ur conduct should be adjusted to be compelling, accommodating and empathetic. This kind of behaviour is already confirming drivers' fear of what unionism will be like.

This is stupidity on your part

Tell the unionists to leave the Uber and Bolt platforms and paint their cabs yellow and start operating cabs. No one forced anyone to be on Uber. Uber clearly has no desire to own cars so I don't understand why you are bringing up fallacies to make up a non existent point. It is very simple, any driver that does not like how things are done should leave the platform. Instead, you want to create yet another useless rent seeking group.

Nobody is asking them not to strike. However, they must not compel others to do so which is what they are going to do. Uber drivers are business owners not employees. It is their choice to determine whether to enter a business relationship with Uber.

Don't be obtuse.

As someone who patronises the car hailing platforms, I have an interest in this. As someone who hates the price fixing and anti-competitive behaviour of labour unions, I will express my opinion here and there is nothing an illiterate and aspiring agbero like you can do about it

You are not an employee of Uber. You will be breaking laws if you try to impound the cars of Uber drivers who refuses to join your useless association.

You are not employees so calling your association a labour union is out of place. Also, there are many ride hailing companies and you always have the option of operating your cab on your own without getting customers from Bolt or Uber. Only a greedy rent seeker would want to force other people to join a protest they have no interest in joining.

As with most obtuse anti-market behaviour, your protest would fail woefully.
