Ikpeba the controversial pundit.. why didn't he criticize the keeper.. what has he to say about the other players? Singling out one player. However oshimhen should have ignored him.. what if oshimhen had scored would he have criticized the style?

Because he was a striker, so he knows more about goal-scoring than goalkeeping.

A retired goalkeeper, Emmanuel Babayaro, has already shared his own view about the goalkeeping.

Victor Ikpeba should've respected his age and himself.

The way and Manner he talks was as if Victor Osimhen deliberately took that bicycle kick. To me , there's no way Osimhen could have kick the ball more than that, the situation at that moment demanded that style.
You know little to nothing about football

If Salah, Aubameyang, and Mane were also playing in the Ikpeba era, you think Ikpeba will win Africa's best? These guys presently are ridiculously good, churning out crazy stats every season.

Salah is even too good for Africa's best presently, his stats and performance is Baloon d'or contender every year.
Okocha was playing, George Weah was playing Abedi Pele was Playing Rashidi Yekini was Playing
Amokachi was playing Amunike was playing
Amunike had already beaten George Weah to the Title in 1994

George Weah was a World Footballer of the year.
Okocha NEVER won African Footballer of the year

Let me give you an interesting fact
When Ikpeba was playing for Nigeria, Nigeria was ranked Number 5 in FIFA rankings
We have not got to that level ever again

Many kids think football started with Messi

It's a lie. If they played at the same time Osimhen go bench ikpeba.
Which kind nonsense mentor, criticizing him when he was the only life wire in a crucial match like that where he lost and is still hurting.
And come to think of it, those bicycle kicks are just what the occasion demanded that time. If the balls came lower than those, those Ghanaian defenders woulda pounced too. So Ikpeba talked trash really

Like he talked when he supported Bubu NEPA Certificate

You're a good annalist with a very good sense of judgement !

I'm still surprised that people are yet to understand that Oshimen was one the reason we lost out, beside the clueless, uninspiring coach.

If Oshimen was cool headed and not trying to do too much and playing to the gallery, he would have gotten one or two goals in those matches.

But he wanted to do it all alone !

If our coach was smart enough, he shouldn't have started Oshimen bcs he had been planned for by the Ghanians , he would have taken them by surprise

Many of you are yet to understand that Oshimen was one of the reasons we lost to CAR in Lagos.

Early in the game, Oshimen was played through on goal outside the box, I had expected him to run into the box before taking the shot have beaten their last defender with speed. An experience player would know that anything that'll make that defender to touch him would be a straight red card and penality, but Oshimen decided to take a long shot out the box that went wide, and that was what would have changed that game entirely.

Oshimen is a good player no doubt, but he needs to learn how to be cool headed, football no be by gragra na tactics !

Thank you jare

People here are supporting Osimhen recklessness

To be honest we can't be trailing.. Needing just a goal to go through

And he was doing bicycle kick up and down. As if he is in training

If one bicycle kick didn't work

A good finisher will change his approach

Rather he was playing to the galary.......certainly I agree with ikpeba ...the young man is not a finished product

He needs to calm down and improve

We need to call spade a spade, oshimen is just a 'gragra' player not too good, at least we saw the 19year old burkinafaso Quattara superb footbal display. Objective coaches would have chosen Amoo to contest that ghana match but sentiment will not allow them.

Football has evolved. Good!!!

Salah is great in this era, doesn't mean he would have been great in the era of Ikpeba.

Stats are also deceitful, especially when you are comparing generations of players. There are more matches now than there were in the days of Ikpeba, so Salah has a lot more opportunities to score goals, and many more opportunities.

And then there is the advantage of better diet, better training, better access to individual development (YouTube videos, etceteras), better tactics, and all that. Take this away from Salah, and I don't think he would measure up to Ikpeba.

True! We lost the matches in both legs because our coach picked Osimhen as his pointman, instead of Iheanacho, and Osimhen could not score goals. He was just busy displaying and doing fruitless gra gra. Ghana defenders successfully punctured his threats. After Eguavoen, na Osimhen get the closest biggest blame.

victor ikpeba really messed up with that stuwpeed comment.
bicycle kick is something more or reflex, spur of the moment and impulse thinking that is related with the ability to do so.
Osimhen was the only player alive on the pitch that day and he is a top quality striker who acted on impulse to execute the kick to reach a desired result but that V.Ikpeba lashed him as if he did it for clout of fancy playing. Ikpeba played as a striker and should have known better than making such a tasteless comment. Now people are trying to play the "age sentiment card" and I wish Osimhen would never ever apologise.

Don't mind them.

You are talking nonsense.
First your claim is UNTRUE. Yekini scored 37 in 62 . . His ratio was a lot higher before he got to 62 as he was at that time no longer a first choice and much older but his overall record was about 60%
By the time Yekini had played 20 games he was scoring in virtually every game

What is goal to game do you understand statistics?
Osimhen has played 20 games and scored 10 goals 50% there is no basis to compare him to someone who played 67 games
A person who has played 1 game and scored 2 goals would have a good "goal to game ratio. The more games you play the more meaningful the statistic and the greater basis for comparison

For you to play 70 games means you have to retain form for a longer period so that is not a meaningful statistic.

As far as benching Yekini goes well I cannot argue with what is obviously childish talk.

Obviously you are a kid
