How is the fuel efficiency(basically 4cyl.), availability of spare parts & cost, reliability & AC system?

You can also tell me its pros & cons.

I've not used it but am planning to buy it.ive driven it and it's a very reliable car the 4plugs is better.very solid and stable car on speed.classy too.

Good morning everyone.

I thought Nairaland would be the best place to ask this since there are many notable car dealers, and car owners here.

I'm looking to get my first car before the end of the year. But I honestly don't know much about cars except that a V6 engine gulps fuel, and that many Nigerians love Toyota. These are my considerations.

1. Budget 2m to 3m.

2. Something girly and portable.

3. Low cost of maintenance. If I had my way, I would buy brand new so I would almost never have to visit the mechanic save for routine maintenance.

- Low fuel consumption
-Availability of spare parts.
- Not prone to breakdown

4. Optimal functioning AC

5. It should be in perfect condition for at least 2 years. When I marry, my husband will buy the next one. But right now, it doesn't have to be fancy. Since I'm not a pro-driver like that like that, Lagos road users may bash and scratch it. I don't want to go home and cry that they're scratching an expensive car.

6. And what's the aversion with Nigerian used cars? People seem not to like buying Nigerian used cars? Can 1.5m get me a good Nigerian used car that meet the aforementioned criteria?

7. Finally, what about cars assembled in Nigeria? Like Innoson? Kia Rio.

That guy advice is the best so far, however throw this simple question to people to before buying your car....which car engine is currently selling fast ? As an engine dealer ....which engine will u stock up shop with the most ? That brand mention has the highest rate of engine failure ....and I tell you it is corrola ....no need for argument enter any car engine shop it is full of Toyota corrola engine ? Why are they buying it so much if they are not failing so much?

They are buying it that much because most corollas are used for Bolt. If there's anything I know about Bolt vehicles, it's that they suffer terrible abuse. The oil and filter is left for 2-3 months before they change it. These are vehicles that accumulate a minimum of 5000km in one month. When they manage to change it, they look for the cheapest oil they can find. The result is why you see a lot of Corolla engines in shops.

Those same vehicles were used for 15-18 years before they were imported into the country. The question I would expect you to ask is, how is it that the engines were not changed in 15 years but we have to change it under 4 years in Nigeria?

That 1ZZ engine is bulletproof, na our folks here dey abuse am anyhow. Plus, e full everywhere so to a large extent, it is a numbers game.

Give me a clean foreign used one and 20 years from now, it will still be running just fine with everything stock.

And, yes, including that good ol' 4-speed auto tranny!

A lot of vehicles cannot take half the abuse corolla takes in the hand of Bolt drivers. Do you know some of them buy those roadside oils that's sold in bottles and pour inside the engine when it starts burning oil.

When the engine dies, people like that guy will blame the poor engine.

Why you did have a valid reason up there , that is not the reason I am planning to point out ....the human use is not my point of reference, the design is what I am pointing out , if Toyota car is running out of oil or doing overheating ....and let's assume u were unable to check from the cluster ....I tell you the engine will keep on running doing fine till it knock on motion ....both of this I have experience, if an honda car is running out of oil or doing overheating ....and u were unable to check from the instrument cluster .... the engine will not knock ....it will simply switch off on you ....this one wonderful design is one of the reason why honda engine is not what u sell everyday compare to corrola engine

You made some valid points there.

For the same year model Volvo cars as the 03 - 08 corolla for eg:

If your water runs low while driving, you get a notification, no way your car is overheating without your knowledge

If your engine oil goes low while driving, you get a notification, no case of driving till oil dries up and knocks engine

If your oil pump is getting weak and oil pressure gets low while driving, you get a notification

If you have a low engine performance (misfires, coils, plugs, etm, fuel pressure), you'll get a notification and a message to either downshift or park safely

You won't get any of these warnings with majority of the Toyotas of same year model hence the higher likelihood of things having gone bad already before you notice.

I cannot speak to this as I've not had a Corolla overheat on me neither have I driven one without oil.

However, I've had a honda J series overheat on Madam and the vehicle shutdown. I remember the mechanic was worried we might have a blown headgasket but none of that happened. So maybe you're right, I don't know.

I however find it difficult to believe that once a corolla overheats, the outcome is an engine failure.

Yeah for honda, the engine will shut down on you but for Toyota, the engine will keep performing as if nothing is wrong assuming you did not check the temperature gauge, you will keep on driving till the engine failure save for the fact that we all have been train to glance at the instrument cluster every now and then
The one time the fuse box shake and some fuse stop working including the fan and instrument cluster, the vehicle keep running like nothing sups until I see smoke coming out , same thing with the oil when coming from labos to ibadan , I got to toll gate ibadan before hearing metallic sound from the engibe, park immediately, open hood , check for oil its dam dry for something I gauge before leaving lagos yet the car keep running like nothing dey happen upto that moment......I have had both same experience with honda the engine shut down on me....and yes I had this experience with honda baby boy...recently with crv with the bad fuel that enter this country last month , bought fuel from one silly station with no crowd, 3 mins from the station, the vehicle just switched off itself and nothing will bring it back on , we tow it to the mechanic, he drain the fuel put new fuel, and the car come back to life
Honda engine can smoke but you will,, need to be totally crazy to knock it ......Toyota? Now you know why everyone one of them definitely replaced their engine and why it sells so fast
