Why Tinubu's Presidential Ambition Paved Way For Sanwo-olu's Second Term by hisexcellency34: 7:22am On Apr 20, 2022
Facts emerged on Tuesday why the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State chapter, approved a second term for Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu.

The GAC, the apex decision making body within the state ruling political class of APC, which is made up of past governors of Lagos, deputies, speakers of House of Assembly, and selected key party stalwarts, is headed by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the APC.

Though the reason why GAC okayed another four years for the governor was not disclosed after the meeting at the State House, Marina, Gbenga Omotosho, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, on his social media handles said the leaders gave kudos to the governor for his “glittering performance”.

Sanwo-Olu was drafted into the race in September 2018 after his predecessor Akinwunmi Ambode was denied a second term by GAC.

Though kept secret, Daily Independent gathered from credible party sources that he had an agreement to run for a single term from 2019 to 2023.

Prior to the confirmation on Monday, Daily Independent had earlier reported exclusively on March 20 that Tinubu had granted approval for the governor to seek the mandate of Lagosians for another term on the APC platform.

Speaking with Daily Independent, a leader of the GAC said while it was true that the initial agreement reached with the governor was to serve for a single term, they rescinded the decision and approved a second term for him owing to his sterling performance in office.

He also added that Sanwo- Olu won the hearts of the party leaders, especially Tinubu by learning from Ambode’s mistakes and eschewing bitterness by completing virtually all the ongoing projects by his predecessor.

“Those saying there was a one-term agreement for Sanwo-Olu may not be wrong. But that is not the issue for now. The focus now is that he has been granted approval for second term by the same GAC that denied his predecessor a second term.

“We strongly believe that the governor has performed creditably well and deserves another term to complete his programmes for the state. He came in with a THEMES agenda but he couldn’t do much as he wanted because he spent most of his time ensuring some of the projects started by his predecessor were completed, most especially the Agege Pen-Cinema Flyover.

“Looking at what he has done since coming into office on May 2019, we all believed that Sanwo-Olu is an astute manager of men and resources.

His sterling performance in infrastructure, health, education, transportation, technology and other areas is highly commendable.

“We also consulted with other critical stakeholders before arriving at the decision to approve a second term for him.

It was generally agreed that the governor is a loyal party man and technocrat who faced the business of governance squarely and allowed the political leaders who brought him on board to run the affairs of the party.

He never lobbied for a second term and even if he should be denied, given his character, he is someone who will accept his fate and not fight back like his predecessor did in 2018.

Above all, he is a listening leader who is in touch with the electorate.

Having considered all these, we agreed that he is the best bet for our party for Lagos governorship election in 2023”.

However, another party leader informed Daily Independent that Tinubu may have decided to allow Sanwo-Olu a second term so as not to create another crisis in the state which may affect his presidential ambition.

According to him, with stiff competition from the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and others, Tinubu cannot allow a political upheaval in Lagos by denying Sanwo-Olu a second term especially given the fact that most leaders in the party wanted him to return.

“Aside performance, I strongly believe that Asiwaju did not want to rock the boat by denying the governor a second term.

Due to his presidential ambition, he is doing everything possible to secure his home base which is Lagos State and denying the governor a second term may have plunged the state into another political crisis. He doesn’t want the Ambode scenario to happen this time around”.

Tinubu doesn't want Sanwo olu to continue as governor because he didn't remit enough money to Bourdillon but he knows that tampering with Sanwo olu's second tenure will will wreck his presidential ambition.

The truth is even if it was ambode episode that came at this time, tilumbu would have still swallowed his pride and give him second term

It's not because he likes sanwo olu or is doing well, it is because of his own ambition in Abuja where he is at the mercy of others

He’s the best performing governor in Nigeria at the moment and it’s only reasonable that a good term deserves another. Any other shalaye is not necessary.

The best performing governor in Nigeria. I said it with all my chest. If any governor in your region is better, mention his name and don’t be scared.

And I hope your Amaechi is already preparing for the primary election? The consensus he was banking on has been thrashed in the dustbin as I predicted.

Truth be told
He may have another in mind, the Amode saga is still fresh in our mind and can taut him as someone who denies others their ambition.

For Sanwoolu he has no choice, saw him at Tinubu rally in Lagos, he has to defend what he himself didn't believe in

Even Udom will laugh out loud at your funny jokes. That one should be competing with an LCDA chairman in Lagos and not Sanwoolu.

As regards consensus, there is no point arguing again. APC NEC will meet today to officially ratify the mode of primary. I will call you out again once the decision is made public. Till then, keep enjoying your self-imposed delusion cheesy grin grin.

To be honest Tinubu is popular because no single day his name won't be mention on national discussion pls guys allow this man rest stop making him to popular.

You don't like Tinubu but yet his name has replaced Nigeria Natonal anthem pls free this man the more you talks about him the more popular he becomes.

One amazing politicl quality Tinubu has is "Despite all insults hurled on him till today he has never reply anyone or used wrong words against anyone" sorry to say this that quality in him is amazing haven't said that I can't vote for him and can never vote for apc never.

I just respect him for that quality.
