There is this wonderful story in the Bible about a beautiful piece of land.
Some people saw giants in it while Caleb saw goodness.

That is how this life is. Some who have been to Texas were myopic and only saw just the people with big hats and no cows .

The question is, what blinded them from seeing the othet side of the coin?... Simple, it is their mindset.

Others would focus on the real cowboys with the biggest hats and the largest herds of cattle and do business with them.

Bottom line, guide your heart with all your might because there is where the issues of this life are conceived.

Electrician is asking for 10mm copper cable for connection between meter and distribution board or changeover. Load won't exceed 3air conditioner, cooker units, water heater(future use) and all the regular lighting points, sockets.

Can American Wire gauge 2 or 6.54mm do the same job? Thank you.

Hummm, which kind of thinking is this? Most everyone be poor? Who is rubbing what on your face? I beg no the hate oooo. Everything na time. When blocks are sold for 20 kobo and land sold for 150 naira some people still cant build house. Today the children of those people then, are buying land for 200millon and building houses of 750millon. Please STOP thinking that way, that pressured and evil thinking will not change anything ooo, na God be that. Matter of fact the more you hate, more blessing come those people way. Please focus on yourself and wait for your time. God will open the door for you too I pray.
I'll rather concentrate on the "humor" part of her/his statement and laugh it off, well exactly what i did!

But you, you seems rather too serious with your response. Be drinking water you hear.

10mm cable is okay. Don't use American standard size compare Nigeria cable size.

I did a DNA lab about 4/5years ago, the design was done in US and what they specified for lighting 10mm cable, 25mm for socket. We have to do a zoom meeting with Electrical designer for him to understand our cable rating and also localized their drawings to suit what we want.

10mm is okay sir

Thank you all for your advices.

Although I have fixed both the front and back doors, also installed burglary protectors at the front and back, installed window protector and installed windows...

I won't be cabling now because I cannot trust the environment just yet.

Maybe when I'm close to moving in, I'll run the cables together with fittings.

But remember you have to run the cables before POP. Cabling and POP can be done same time. It will be difficult to run the cable after closing up the ceiling ..

I had actually purchased all my wiring from Home Depot but before I shipped them I read something similar to what you wrote above. So I jejeli returned everything and purchased 100% local materials. Additionally, using USA cables would have cost more in labor because they would have to strip off the outer sheathing.

When designing/building, always make allowance for the future.
One day u may decide to add one a/c, one heater, etc. It will be more costly and inconvenient to overhaul the cables then.
So use the 10mm

Asphalt vs interlocking stones vs concrete (stamped or plain) for a residential driveway...Which would you prefer and why? I'm currently leaning towards asphalt for my project (when I get to that stage), but I'd love to get alternative opinions, especially with regards to cost and durability, thanks.

They have used about 1250 bags of cement before getting to plastering with about .. So far, adding the 450 ( 180 for outside and 270 for inside) for plastering brings the total to about 1700 bags.. It is just a duplex with penthouse

This is the approx breakdown
Note that it has about 48 columns ( Pilars)
To give you idea about the size, 550 pieces of 12mm were used for first and 430 pieces of 12mm for the penthouse decking.

Foundation 100 bags
DPC 180 bags ( there was waste here)
Ground floor block setting 150 bags ( including pillars)
First decking 160 bags
First floor block setting 150 bags (including Pillars)
Second decking 120 bags
Second floor block setting 100 bags
Parapet 120 ( for both floors)
Total about 1280 bags plastering not included.
Oh okay 1280 bags of cements without plastering not bad. With something similar raft foundation alone swallow 340 bags, plastering in and out, window hoods, fence plastering another 580 bags. I lost count on all deckings pillars and block setting, the Engineer is reading, he may remember. At a point I just won’t count again. Don’t want to even talk about TMT rods tonnage. Not a joke at all.

Is okay, no need to entertain anyone calling him or herself big. It’s just for education purpose. When someone say he is buying trailers of materials for him projects, others take him for jokes. My brother is not, that why some people will not say anything but read and laugh. Peace oooo.

Good day all.
There is an undeveloped land next to my compound. Millipedes are crawling into my compound from bushy land. Suggestions on how to deal with this will be appreciated. Someone suggested that my people should cultivate the land and plant vegetables and the likes to keep it clean until the owner shows up. But I don't want my people harass for trespassing

Buying cable from Home Depot to use in a house in Nigeria is easy and as straight forward as ABC. Except you don’t have the money. Nothing else!
First go to Home Depot
Walk yourself to cable isle
Pick the ones you need
The rating is on the label, remember they use 110 not 220v. Pick the single wire ones that are rolled in drums ( not small coils like the ones in Nigeria). You would not need to peel off any cover from those.
Pay at checkout
Ship them

All this could be done online as well
Enjoy your purchase

Note I won’t personally do this because there are good quality cables in Nigeria . But it’s not rocket science as they would want you to believe.

You can but it's far easier to do it before. The electrician will have to be super careful.

SOLAR POWERED OUTDOOR SET-UP

Do you know you can power your outdoor security and lighting for "free" with a one-off purchase of solar powered devices? Here are some solar outdoor systems ideas for your project.

I've only seen one person do asphalt on here. It looked the business alright.

I did plain concrete and my driveway in granite.

I'm very pleased with the outcome.

The why's. I actually like concrete. For the granite driveway it's a way to give mother nature her water back into the grounds. I mimicked what I had in Texas except for the grass part.
