My current employer pays me N50k monthly with accommodation & transport benefits. Now, I have a new job offer of N80k salary with no accommodation. And the monthly estimation of transport fare for the new job would be N36k (from the N80k). But the only thing I am considering now is the new position I am offered, which would be of great value to my career pursuit. The new pay is nothing to write about, I am only considering the value the new position would add to my CV. Actually, our agreement during the interview was N80k for the three months' probationary period & there would be increment with satisfactory performance. The first offer letter they sent had N60k pay for the probation & N20k increment afterwards, which I rejected. The new offer letter has N80k pay with no increment after the probation. And, I would sign a year contract with them. I doubt surviving in Lagos with the salary. My current job is not in Lagos.

Kindly advise me on what to do. I have just 24hrs to accept or reject the offer.

It's a field engineering. I am currently a technician & now offered a field engineer's position (team lead).

Thanks in anticipation for your inputs.

Y'all be chasing jobs just to upgrade your CV. By the time real job and real salary will come, you're no longer in need of such opportunities. You end up spending most of your time on earth chasing wind, at the end no comfort. There's no sense in being educated in these western ways if it doesn't bring about daily life changes.

All that is required here is to apply common sense but common sense they say it's not common...!!

Accomodation in Lag will be over 250K
Transportation should be about 10K monthly on average...

But you have them free on your current job and you are thinking otherwise...!!

Kai...!!

You will still end up being frustrated in your new job, then it will be too late to return to your old job. If you are a hustler, you can always get somewhere else in Lagos after leaving the new job.

The present job is a safer job and the economics is better than the new job. The new job offers new adventure, but less financially and I believe the company will frustrate you when you resume because of their dubious nature.

Stay where you are and seek for another job.

Stay in your current job. plan yourself well. save a s much as you can save. and invest in business. The new company night owe salary The might not give you the increase when you join. These two jobs are survival jobs. they are not jobs you should get comfortable with for long. in your next offer, ask for atleast 150k

Since you are not married go for the new job. E get reason. The current job will make you redundant because you will be too comfortable except there is room for promotion which I doubt. I dey your field.

A better career-focused role or a better life with ability to pay bills?!

Field Engineer 80k too poor, if we know your years of experience one will be able to advise accordingly
Given a team lead speaks a lot, maybe unless they just want to cheat you. Your position should accord the needed salary and respect if not you will be frustrated to know a foreman earns more than you on that project.
If it is a Chinese firm forget it. That money should be given to a graduate trainee , even an Engineering graduate trainee earn 120k least

Stay on the present job which offers accommodation. You can move on when you get another offer from 200,000 NGN.

Yes, he should stay on the current job bc the new offer is poor for a state like Lagos. About the new job adding value to his CV, he should create time in his current job to learn skills related to his profession even if it will be on a part time based, cos this will help his CV as well.

The type of Job and Industry would have helped me advice you better but however, Money is not the only thing you consider in a job. The name and reputation of the organization, your job title and description are all key and should be considered.

I will advice you go for the new job because of its potential as you have expressed. A field engineering work in Lagos will also expose you to more opportunities.
Don't be afraid of the challenges. You might have to face it to make anything meaningful.

As an Experienced Engr, I will advice you go for experience. Take the new job, if you want to move up career wise. The experience will enable you apply to better companies having worked as as a field engr. You present job will keep you stagnant. Look at the future, don't let the small benefits deprive you of something that can open opportunities for greatness for you. Dont look at salary, as a young engr, you should go for experience.

Re: Should I Accept The New Job Offer? by ojuolu(m): 4:41pm On May 06, 2022
Stick to your present job bro. The new offer already underrated and undervalued you.
Forget about the nominal increase, it is not an increase per say. See below analysis.
If you have no accomodation for now or a lasting one, you will need 250k for a studio room in a not too fantastic part of Lagos and you will transport yourself with about 1000 naira a day. Put that at 25k a month and 300k year. That is already 550k less in real salary. Your new job offer you 1,032,000 naira per annum. Minus that 550k from it, you are left with 482,000 naira plus Lagos stress.
Your current job is paying you nominal 600k naira per annum plus 550k naira in benefits...that amount to real pay of 1,150,000 naira per annum minus the stress.
Untill you get a job of at least 2M in nominal value, or real value in Lagos, don't move.
The profile of the company should be the driving force not the role you are being offered. Some job role are just nomenclature. You can be call team lead engineer and be the only one in the dept leading yourself. And you can be a technician and part of a team in a robust company where your contribution will be considered as valuable by future employer because of the profile and the anticedent of the company (talking from experience here)
Finally, add value to yourself on the current job and keep updating your achievements, someone/company will value you and offer you something commensurate with your worth. Until then, don't sell yourself cheap.
