2023 Presidency: Ohanaeze Threatens Boycott Of Polls Over Zoning by Kuginzi: 4:41pm On May 08, 2022
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Sunday, threatened a boycott of the 2023 presidential election should the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, refuse to zone their tickets to the Southern region.

This came in reaction to the latest stand of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, and the Northern Elders’ Forum, NEF, who both believe the presidential contest should be thrown open.

But Ohanaeze, through its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro said in a statement made available to DAILY POST, that the abolition of the gentleman agreement on power rotation would come with dire consequences.

He said it was obvious that “the Northern Elders’ Forum has opted for absurdity in issues that will strengthen internal democracy in all political parties and in the country.”

He, however, warned that “any attempt by northern socio-cultural groups to arm-twist the two major political parties, through their sons who are National Chairmen of both the APC and the PDP, to derail the electoral process, will lead to revolts and boycott of the 2023 presidential election in the South, especially in the East.”

He claimed that the leadership of both political parties were under coercion from northern lobbyists and northern socio-cultural groups “to destroy the trust and confidence that bind Nigerians together through the rotational presidency between the North and the South.”

He said those making such moves ought to have learnt from the sad experiences of the North when they frustrated President Jonathan’s administration and installed Buhari in 2015.

“The aftermath of that betrayal is the worsening insecurity in the North,” Isiguzoro said.

He declared that, “we will encourage the Southern Governors and socio-cultural groups to mobilize our people and boycott the 2023 presidential election in the South, especially in the South-East if the Northern candidates emerge in APC and PDP.

"Whenever it gets to the turn of the Igbo, the narratives will always change against them.

“Whenever it’s the time for the Igbo to attain any position, there will be gang ups and clandestine networks to fuel crisis and disasters against them, but it won’t work this time. Igbos will surely survive all these political conspiracies against them.”

Ohanaeze need to first convince their people to go register for a voters card before I believe them.

90% of igbos don't have a voters card.
This is not a joke, go and find out.
Ask an Igbo man near you if he has a voters card and hear what he's going to say.

They igbos have already boycotted the 2023 election.

This is good news to other aspirants.

—Ohaneze will boycott election which means voters turnout will be so so low and left to only partisan politicians

—Simon Eba, the IPOB terrorist commander will declare no lefelendum, no erection.

Then the votes from the SE this time around will be 1.35%.

Victory for democracy!

It will, by Constitution a president should get certain 25% in some states. So if election is boycotted and someone is declared a winner then it means it is an illegitimate government which is null and void and not binding on the people of the east

Election cannot be boycotted 100% in any state because you will still have politicians pushing their caucus and well wishers to vote with tight security.

Even if only 10,000 voters show up in Enugu for example, so long a candidate can get 25% of that 10k voters, then he satisfies the constitutional requirement.

It’s very simple as ABC.

Is it your village Constitution you are quoting here?
Nigeria's Constitution states a presidential candidate must score both a majority of votes AND at least 1/3 of the votes in 2/3 of the states. That means at least 1/3 of the votes in 24 states. If the 5 SE states boycott, that leaves 31 states from which the winner can get the mandated margin from. A SE boycott will have zero impact on the legitimacy of the election results.

Mind you, igbos are only 5 states, the constitution only requires 24 states and fct.

Right, I support them. In fact, that would place the Igbos to qualify for what the UN calls oppressed people of the world which equally attracts the attention of the world body to separate them from Nigeria who clearly don't want them.

That would equally make Nnamdi Kanu a hero and without further persuasion, all Igbos worldwide will key in to the struggle by IPOB.

The only problem why we are distancing ourselves from IPOB is their new unfortunate turn to violence and killing fellow Igbos. Because no relatives of those slain Igbo policemen, politicians, traders, businessmen and women will ever support such evil way of "struggle".

Let IPOB jettison the Ambazonia atrocious ways and see everyone support them just like before.

Nigeria is a symbol of oppression
