That said, and on a serious note, Russia has put up with not being able to run a pipe from Iran, that has significantly hobbled it over the years, and I bet before this Ukraine palaver the pipe to Germany was under threat, so yes, Russia was provoked, but it also has been overtly aggressive here, to its detriment.

It's like someone stepped on their Russian toe so they nuked them because they supposedly don't take nonsense. Overreacting, is the word to describe what they could have better achieved diplomatically, or financially, as China is trying to do.
