Most Okada Riders In Lagos Are Criminals- Police Commissioner by Maxymilliano(m): 12:05pm On May 19, 2022
The Lagos State Commissioner Of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has stated that many motorcycle operators are criminals in disguise who perpetrate nefarious acts across the state.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a ban on motorcycles, popularly known as Okadas, in six local government areas on Wednesday after what he described as “a critical review” on the “menace that has not abated.”

Speaking on Channels Television’s flagship show Sunrise Daily on Thursday, commissioner Alabi disclosed that many of the riders were unlicensed after consultations with executive bodies within the state.

I want to be emphatic here, most of them are criminals masquerading as okada riders,” Abiodun said

“We have arrested so many of them with locally made pistols in the course of their operations and many of them have been charged to court.”

The commissioner also lamented the level of crime committed with the aid of motorcycles in communities across the nation’s economic hub.

“They use these okadas to commit a lot of crimes in so many communities; that is why we have been having a lot of dialogue and consultations with their unions,” he said.

“The best way out is to get them off our roads because a lot of them are masquerading as okada riders but are criminals.”

Commissioner Alabi was however not reluctant to admit that the ban had some drawbacks.

We know that banning the Okada riders can actually increase the crime rate. And we are not unmindful of that and we are already putting in place a lot of strategies to contend with it.” he said.

We know that it will send a lot of them to unemployment. We are aware of that and are preparing for it.”

Some engage in Okada business for fraudulent purposes but not all of them. And most definitely not all the criminals that uses Okada for criminality are hausas ..

Your fellow Nigerian policemen are the worst criminals in Nigeria today. Trained to maintain peace in a society and enforce laws but the reverse is the case...

Take note of @ emboldened...

Is like saying because the destroying of slums and shanties can make some people homeless, then the criminals hiding there should be left alone.

You see after this okada banning, shanties and slums destruction is the next

Since 2004, no commercial motorcyclist has seen the street of city centres in Abuja like Maitama, Asoroko, Wuse, Wuye and many others. They're only permitted to operate in poor man's areas like Mpape, Kubwa Village, etc grin.

Yes, and the most annoying thing is that most of them are not even Nigerians. They're from Niger and Cameroon.

Imagine me as a guy who speaks Hausa, most of the time if I speak Hausa to them to try and get discount they'll be looking at me like fools, they can't even understand or some of them will be speaking one kind of Hausa that I've not heard before.

All okada men should have means of verification and the foreigners should be thrown out of the country and deported immediately, they cannot come and be giving us bad name. angry

Okadas are becoming a nuisance especially those of Northern extract. They ride like they are on drugs. Just hit them and they have a accident, they believe the next thing to do is to start a mob and burn your vehicle. They are not fit for a modern society.

If this is the price, they have to pay for killing an innocent man, David, so be it.

Everywhere, not just Lagos. Many of them are Keke drivers.

Over ninety percent of them are foreigners who entered Nigeria through the various unguarded boarders in the north.

The north is supplying enough problems to all parts of Nigeria. Enjoy your "one Nigeria"
