Peppermintflav:When your catalyst disappear tomorrow you won't know the one that remove it, stick to one mechanic e get why, and not all fault that scanner will tell you, that is why you always argue with mechanic.. |

Goldbw122:OBD2 scanners do no lie. One thing u should know is that, when u first scan any vehicle for fault(s), the current and associated fault codes would be shown unti u. That's why u need clear them, drive the vehicle around (in expectation of any code) and re-scan. The current code that is usually the code that triggered malfunction in other areas that showed codes will come up again. So, with that, u can start with life data to further troubleshoot |

kennybabs1980:Sometimes the internet is a huge reservoir to handle some issues in your car, unless you're pretty avoiding greasy hands. I can change my plugs, airflow meter, bulbs, brain box etc query the internet if you can have the right key words. For example my bmw went for an oil change, but the mechanic failed to screw tight the oil intake port tight, thereby admit air into the engine system, resulting in the car stalling in motion, sometimes complete failure to accelerate smoothly, took it back, their opinion there are no problem with your car, and later suggested what I will change. On getting home I queried bmw website site. One answer pops up, oil intake port gasket faulty, I took a hand towel to unscrew the cover, behold it was as bad as not tightened, the rest is history a knowledge gained. Whatever your car is, query their website first, you must know your car model very well, not like tiny light, orobo, ugly face, evil spirit kind of stuff. Instead of cam rod our local mechanics calls it cacamber. |

Twob:Actually he is right, not all parts are computerised thus not every fault will get detected by a scan. Some codes can only lead you towards the problem but it will still take some sorting to figure out the real problem. |
| Re: Antics Of Local Mechanics by 2kurupt(m): 3:58am On May 21, 2022 |
highoctane:Exactly. Our mechanics simply refuse to upgrade their knowledge as someone already pointed out. Imagine an elderly mechanic saying YouTube videos don't teach anything meanwhile he is busy doing guess work and can't even run a scan on the vehicle. |

Peppermintflav:This shouldn't be the new normal, nah Should people also start diagnosing themselves before going to the hospital Let's not start finding excuses for them. The truth is that all Nigerian artisans have problems with professionalism(work ethics), dedication, sincerity and trustworthiness, and need to earnestly turn a new leaf. |

kennybabs1980:My experience with my mechanic recently was crazy. This is my story. First, my car AC developed problem, I took it to this man someone recommended to me as expert in fixing car AC. After checking he told me that the AC compressor, condenser and evaporator is bad and need to be change in which I gave him money to buy and fixed. When doing the work he loose the car dashboard to remove the old evaporator and fixed the new one then he discover nothing wrong with that and fixed it back, the AC come back to live. After two weeks it stop working then he said the compressor he bought is not good enough. He return it and collect another one but still all stop working less than two weeks again. That is how I became a regular customer in his workshop without succeeded in fixing the AC. I travel with the car to Ilorin on my way back the car engine just knocked without any signal. When checking I discovered there is no single drop of engine oil remain in the engine. I called one mechanic and electrician to find out what really happened, there is a hose under the engine that is bursted and that is where all the engine oil escaped out. That is when I discover that the AC man has disconnect the wire that supposed to let the engine oil light show in the dashboard. I called my mechanic and we took the car to his workshop in lagos and fixed the engine. When he is bringing the car to my house he told me the gear didn't enter reverse and need a reset. He took the car to a gear mechanic to reset it, my car was with this guy for almost two months before I go and collect my car back by force to another person that fixed the gear and still the gear is not working well till now. He told me to continue drive it that it be okay later. So we all have to becareful with all these roadside mechanic majority of them don't know anything. |

Goldbw122:I don't leave my car with the mechanic. I'm always there from start to finish. It's good to have variety, what if your mechanic is sick or travelled, and you have pressing issues with your car? |
| Re: Antics Of Local Mechanics by 3kay945(m): 4:07pm On May 21, 2022 |
I stayed with my mechanic o,. They know me for that. I have learnt alot doing so too. I can resolve some issues sef without visiting them. I don't need them for changing of brake pads, plugs, MAF cleaning, throttle body, doors and windows issues etc. My neighbour calls me engineer Cos he sees me repairing generators big and small myself. All these stuff are not hard but interest. I like repairing stuff though. I derive pleasure doing so. ![]() |
