Opinion Poll: Vaginal Tear Or Cut During Childbirth. A Dream Or A Dread.

A wonderful day to everyone.

In the course of my discussion with a group of women on childbirth experiences and associated issues including vaginal tear or cut during child delivery and its management. Someone stated that she dread having a Tear or Episiotomy again after the ugly experience at the birth of her first child which almost cost her life after being poorly managed by the healthcare workers.

Almost immediately after that, another woman expressed her desire to have a tear at delivery, cos she had learnt that the place gets tightened more as the sutured wound heals, giving more pleasure during intercourse.

I'm now seeking members' opinion, especially mothers, on this issue.

Do/Would you Desire for a Tear or Cut During Childbirth or you Dread it.

It is dreadful, I had a tear during my first delivery… the doctor was gentle while stitching it though… we were having a conversation during the whole thing…. He told me I was really strong…. I had to be strong for my munchkin……. I don’t wanna go through the process again though…

Op, mind you, it's not a choice, it is the ability of the hole, if it is not wide enough, definitely it will cause a rigorous tear or a doctor perform Episiotomy, but the sewing back na die

That is why when days of delivery is near, na continuous nacking o to widen that place... Fact!

A tear is every woman’s fear. A cut is better because it’s carefully and deliberately done. I’m not a woman but have children and can tell you from experience.

My medical friend once told a group of women that a vaginal tear would be more dangerous than a cut due to the fact that it's spontaneous and implies that there's more difficulty in controlling the level of injury that may occur in the process which may lead to higher amount of bleeding, more difficulty in suturing, and complications like extension of the tear to the anus.

A cut on the other hand is intentional and for the sole purpose of preventing a tear. This means more control of injury inflicted that also translates to lesser blood loss and easier suturing for aesthetic purposes. Although complications may arise, it's usually less than that of a tear.

In a nutshell, I believe a cut (which is called episiotomy) is preferable because it offers a better outcome.

Mostly when the baby is very big ,my wife told me just two days ago that she had it twice during the time she was giving birth to two out of my four kidsand I was surprised..for those of you who will wonder how come...whenever my wife gives birth I don't come close to her like 4 months, we sleep in different room, am very emotional person, if I see her body after childbirth I might not allowed her to get pregnant again

I was present when my wife gave birth, the tear happened by itself. It happened so Baby's head can come out. So I got to realize that most times the tear is automatic

Some women require vaginal cut during delivery why some don't depending on different factors such as the level of dilation of the cervix. Most women giving birth the first time will require a slight cut to create enough room for the baby to pass through. Failure to give a cut may result in vaginal tear. it's the job of the doctor or midwives to determine if a cut is needed. The cut is stitched up immediately after delivery and cleaning of the uterus. The stitch is also called ' HUSBAND STITCH' as it helps tighten the vagina after the stitch must have healed.
