I just feel so bad for my elder bro who has been underemployed since he finished his service year. Our joy knew no bounds when he called and informed everyone in the family that he will be going to Lagos for a job interview. What actually happened was that a friend of his contacted him about an opening in their company. The friend works with one QI group of companies. The QI group of companies is supposed to be an international organizations that pays in dollars. So my elder brother left Owerri to Lagos on a night bus yesterday. He was well received by his friend and according to him, he did the interview with some representatives of the company. After the interview, he was asked to pay a whopping sum of 480k for the slot. My questions now are: how and where will an unemployed get money to pay for a job slot? If someone can be able to make 480k, why will the person be job hunting? Is QI group of companies even legit or a scam? Why can't the government really regulate all these thing? This county na man chop man... Now my brother has left Lagos for Owerri this night. This is just like a norm now. Tell your brother to run ooooo. He should keep applying. E go sure one day. Before una sell family land or property, tell him to tell them to collect the money from his salary. Let him sign agreement with them. Payment to secure a job has been going on for long in Nigeria. I remember way back when a VC of a federal university made available more than 100 vacant position for applicant to apply in the university but the downside of the vacant job is that you'll have to pay as low as 200k to secure a slot. I feel your brother's pain, in no time he will get a job and also he should be mindful of the kind of jobs he applies for because we have alot of scam organizations that are disguised to be a legit organization but they are out to swindle people. Are you sure his friend is not in this with the organization to scam your brother? Most companies that demand money for a job slot are scam. 4 Likes |

 Although there are instances in Nigeria when a job seeker is told to pay for the job but in most cases its government work (not right but it happens) . Ask your brother if he trusts his friend enough to believe that he won't scam him. And also be very sure that the friend works withe the firm and his standard of living is in line with the status of the said firm, make he no be say na pyramid employment dem dey run o. Thread carefully, for a private company it could be a scam. On to your question, people actually pay for jobs especially federal civil service and parastatal slots. It's an open secret but these things do happen. Despite this corrupt practice some people still get such jobs on merit by God's grace, tell your brother not to relent. 3 Likes |

Regardless, tell your brother to run for his life because it may be even a staged interview by fake people claiming to be representing the company.
