Engineers and technicians here, please I discovered that my Toyota Corolla radiator coolant is not reducing or deceasing. Since I bought the car about a year and half now when I bought it tokunbo and changed the fluid, I have only topped the coolant in like three times. The last time I added topped it was over six months now. The car is working and no overheating or radiator issue.

On the other hand, my wife's Toyota matrix car radiator normally reduces a little any time she drives out and in, although what I normally add is just like three spoonful volume of fluid. Her car is just about five months old, when we bought direct tokunbo.

Why the variance or difference?

leave your car as it is...no go find wahala when wahala no dey.. From my little understanding, thats the way a car cooling system should be as long as there is no leakage, it should barely reduce.

Same applies to AC too...

My CRV is 8 years now and I have never topped off. Just keep an eye on your engine temp.

Honda says we should change at 3-5 years but I am waiting to see if temp reaches half.

Right now, I am around 4 O clock and everything works perfect.

Your car is doing well, don't let anybody tamper with anything around the cooling system (radiator, fan, thermostat, water pump, coolant etc). Meanwhile your wife's car is not doing bad as well, a little decrease may probably mean that radiator cover is not pressure tight enough or a very minor leak somewhere. Only qualified technicians should be allowed to check or service your vehicles please.

Hmmmm...... I top up mine in months! Guess you're used to adding water instead of coolant. Leave the cars alone.

No. Still in factory blow and off settings

Not possible.. with your temp gauge at 1/4 mark.. your thermostat has been removed with fans connected directly or thermostat is stuck in open. Either way. It's bad for your engine.

My temp is almost half (between 3 and 4) and my fans run on and off and my coolant is still green and full. And that's the Truth.

My Chrysler is direct, thermostat is there, same 8 years running and all works perfectly fine. Temp is exactly in the middle after warming just as it was made to be.

I have read and re-read the reports on this direct/thermostat thing, I actually learnt how a thermostat works and therefore, I still have mine.

And my humble practical experience shows that a good engine is maintained by good driving habits and prompt servicing when due.

My mechanics always complain "oga u no dey use dis your motor",

If your temperature gauge is at 4 o clock position at idle.. your engine is running cold. That's it.
Now you're saying it's middle.. that's the 3 o clock position then

Yes, it runs cold. In fact when I bought it it was only inches away from "C" (on the top of "C", even when I took it from Lagos to Calabar and back, it remained unchanged for years.

In fact it was 2 years ago that I noticed it had risen to 4 o clock which coincides with 5 years Honda says you should replace coolant. Which is why I have its replacement but I want to learn what happens. I want to see if it reaches half as a lot of users have said that there own is on the half mark.

So, I would like to know if I change the coolant will the temp drop back to "C"? (I don't think so but I will like to practically know)

This is for my Chrysler which is where it has been since I bought it 8 years back.
