Magdalene Chiefuna, the receptionist on duty on the day the late Masters student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Timothy Adegoke, was discovered dead inside Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Wednesday said she and others took oath of secrecy to protect the hotel from the adverse effect of the incident.

At the resumed hearing of the matter at the Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo Chiefuna, under cross-examination by the lead prosecution counsel, Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, she also said she did not know that the deceased was dumped until when she got to police station six days after.

While in the dock during the court session that lasted about seven hours, Chiefuna said she only heard the deceased had paid for the room when she resumed duty on November 6, but never saw him.

She said the following day, when the lodger was not seen at the reception area, she took a spare key to Room 305 and opened the door, where she met Adegoke in the room lying face up and wrapped in duvet exposing only his face on the bed.

Chiefuna further said she initially thought Adegoke was sleeping, but became scared when she shook his leg and she immediately informed the manager on duty, Adeniyi Aderogba, of her discovery.

She added that after Aderogba had also gone into the room to check Adegoke, he declared that the lodger was dead.

She said the managing director of the hotel, Roheem Adedoyin, after the body had been discovered dead, arrived the hotel and was told what happened.

According to her, Adeniyi later took her and the receptionist that was to take over duty, Esther Asigor to MD’s office, where Adedoyin administered oath of confidentiality on them in order not to disclose what had transpired.

What happened to alerting the necessary authorities? Placing the business' repute over doing what's right both legally and morally? Na wa

My humble,honest opinion is that the guy died from health related issues in the hotel and the hotel management fo olishly tried to safeguard the image of the hotel,naively trying to avoid being tagged a ritual killing perpetuated in the hotel,by dumping his corpse like a piece of rag.
Now,the verdict of ritual killing will stay with the accused owner,no matter what evidence is brought to the contrary.

It may not have been ritual killing as earlier thought but it seems like the hotel management panicked and decomposed the body without the authorities been notified.

Something similar happened in my community, the lady died in the hotel room and her lover ran away without telling anyone,when the hotel management went and threw her corpse into a river without informing the authorities but as fate could have it, the man returned with police officers only to discover that the corpse was missing.

This is getting messier

Now she has succeeded in un_oathing the oath by going public.

Cruise country....the victim might have died of natural causes but the fear of the country's security agencies and how they twist and exploit those that volunteer Information might have triggered the cover up plan to protect their business interest alas it blew right on their faces.

These issues of cover up in hotels is nothing new...I recall the days of the serial killer in Port Harcourt...sone of the hotels secretly removed the victims from their premises and dumped them in open spaces to avoid police wahala.

Every day for the thief one day for the owner. The Blood of that innocent man will definitely hunt them all!

They should just send the owner of the Joel to life imprisonment t already and lay this to test

This person is still not saying the truth. She's saying what they ask her to say. Yes, they took oath... But there's more to that story than what she's saying
