There have been school shooting in the US almost every year since 1900. Only difference is that the casualty became greater with advancement in gun technology, guns became cheaper and there are now easier access to guns. Let's not forget the NRA and the conservatives that are in bed together (campaign funds flowing in easily to the GOP from NRA). Guns are also now more deadly. Sophisticated assault rifles that can fire many rounds at a time and don't jam as often anymore. I even left a picture of a Tommy machine gun to give him a clue but he still did not get it LOL.

An 18 year old carrying a Tommy in 1950 or 1970 America will be something. Nowadays you have them getting an AR15 as birthday present.
