In fulfilment of the new minimum wage regime announced on Workers’ Day, Governor Godwin Obaseki has paid the Workers’ May salaries and pension, reflecting the new wage increase.

The Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, disclosed this via a statement issued on Thursday.

“The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has approved the payment of retirees’ pension and workers’ salaries for the month of May, reflecting the new N40,000 minimum wage,” the statement read in part.

“This is in fulfillment of the statutory obligations to workers and also a reflection of the governor’s expert and judicious management of the state’s resources.”

Obaseki had on May 1 announced the increment of the minimum wage in the state from N30,000 to N40,000. He noted that the increase was necessary to help workers overcome the country’s overbearing economic challenges, which have caused galloping inflation among other socio-economic dislocations.

A cross-section of workers, who spoke with journalists after the payment of the new minimum wage, expressed excitement about the development, praising the governor for keeping to his word.

“I can’t contain my joy. In all my years in the civil service, no governor has done as much as Governor Obaseki, a civil servant, Mr. Jeremiah Igbinosa, said. “He has shattered all records. I am in awe of his financial acumen.”

Another public servant, Mrs. Ose Okosodo, said the governor has proven to be the darling of workers not only in Edo but in Nigeria. According to him, workers across Nigeria, who had been calling to confirm the governor’s announcement earlier in the month, now have evidence to prove that the Governor is a promise keeper.

“We are lucky in Edo. There is no doubt,” he said. “This is happening when other governors are making excuses for why they are not able to pay workers.”

I'd like someone from Edo state to confirm this because I don't believe anything Nigerian politicians say.

Besides, this thread may remain here since it is not bad news about the governor. If it was something bad, it would have made the front page hours ago.

If Nigerians want to outsmart these special breeds of liars called politicians, bill them to believe whatever they say to you, don’t ever believe for free, charge to believe

One thing Obaseki doesn't joke with since he became Governor is workers' salaries. I don't know much about the N40,000 new minimum wage payment but his antecedents with respect to salary payments will make me believe that he has implemented it.

I'm going to derail.....

The thing is the People's Democratic Party are not even a serious Party.

The introduction of Wike has made them loose their values.

Take for instance the way they (the PDP Governor's) under the Instigation of Wike pushed away Uche Secondus why because, Uche opposed their plans to impose Successors as against the People's Wish.

Check In Akwaibom State.
A Party Faithful and Indigenous Politician like Obong Bassey Albert Akpan lost the Primaries because the Present Governor anointed a total stranger to be his successor.

Rigged the Primaries by allowing only Ad-Hoc Delegates to vote and caging the AdHoc delegates with state funds.

On a normal day, His Preferred Candidate can't even win a Local Government Elections.



So you see Why PDP can't even stand a Chance to Win In 2023..

Wike is not just the Problem
Greed is also making them loose value.

Confirmed!

For prompt salaries payment of civil servants and pensioners, I will give it to the governor. Latest 24th wifey don get alert. She works in the health sector.

This month of May salary came 26th or so.

Stop being delusional!

The man is doing his bit and he is not the type of governor that does projects commissioning before use. Like the area where I lived in Benin city, there are tons of projects. Tons of roads newly constructed and also rehabilitated ( I know this is how your likes rate a working governor, coming on air to do a paparazzi show off). Even at that he is building roads but I keep wondering why I have not seen him commission these projects before use.

He just build projects, once completed, the next day people start using it. Nothing like the usual ribbon scissors cutting camera show off. Many hate him because he does not spend on frivolity.


He is called wake and see for a reason.

Take for instance the recent bus terminal newly constructed, I went there and saw it’s now being used and I was like, why does this man not even commission projects before use?

I can point to a lot of visible projects, policy formations, workers warfare, workforce training and retraining and tons of good governance oriented projects this man has done and doing that I never saw him do a paparazzi show off on.

He is a kind of build and use governor. Because he doesn’t do all those usual fanfair paparazzi projects commissioning thingy does not mean he is not working inspite of the recent paucity of funds some other governors keep complaining about.

I was reading through this same 40k minimum wage and prompt salaries for pensioners and civil servants payment confirmation on his official twitter few days ago and guy commented that he was lying that salaries are not being paid as at when due.

I checked this twitter profile GBAM! He was a pro Tinubu judging by the type of contents on his walls. I was like this someone not residing in Edo saying all these.

It dawned on me that many just hate him because of the way he stood his ground and fought to a standstill the Tinubu and Oshiomole gang up against him because of that people always want to always paint the picture of Edo made a mistake electing and those fake news stories.

Obaseki is not the type of those agbero governor. He is sound, working and doing his bit.

Yes there other areas he needs to do better but he is working and lets commend him in this areas where we can see and feel his works while we also criticize him in areas where he is failing and needs to do better.

Yes, it would be celebrated, won't it? that's less than a hundred dollar bill for a country whose economy is fast becoming obsolete,a country where a 200 hundred dollar bill can not feed a family of 3 or four 3 times for 2 weeks.Yet as usual,the criminals spearheading the political activities will expect the masses to praise and celebrate them for paying a minimum wage of 40,000 naira because they have forced the masses to believe that suffering is their inheritance and the masses has accepted it with all their hearts.

Obaseki can do this because he isn’t paying Taxes to any god fathers be they Oshomole, Wike or Atiku

If he had god fathers like Tinubu to settle there’s no way he will have enough to pay pension and salaries + the new salary scale.
