LISTS OF ALL CANDIDATES SHORTLISTED FOR THE PTDF MSC AND PHD OVERSEAS SCHOLARSHIP INTERVIEW

All candidates and respective states are listed. If your name is there and you didn't receive any invite, you can tell the authorities to schedule you for interview.

Also, note that you are competing with only your states in each category i.e. successful candidates of United Kingdom and F/M/G candidates lists will be in a separate category.

Some states have lesser competition than other states due to the number of shortlisted applicants.

https://ptdf.gov.ng/selection-interview-exercise-for-shortlisted-candidates-for-the-2022-23-overseas-scholarship-scheme-oss-msc-and-ph-d-award/#iLightbox

Good luck everyone.

If most officials in PTDF and other influential figures are from the North like you guys already admitted, given limited number of slots per state, don't you think northerners trying to get in based on merit are more in danger of being kicked out of the list out of nepotism by their kinsmen? We all face different types of danger and the KA states in the north are just as competitive as any southern state to begin with.
Did you really just type this grin
Tendency towards bias tips the scale in favor of a northern candidate.

As for the your final statement..... I almost choked grin
Trust me, you have no idea of how competitive the south is...
I'm telling you, if the selection was thrown open, purely competitive and based on performance , I mean, no quota system or anything, the south would dominate the list.

You want to talk about competition, there are over 100 interviewees from my state for GFM alone, please tell me how many other southern states have these numbers to begin with. Some of you are irredeemably foolish.

As much as I have heard success stories from people who had no one looking out for them I have also heard some horror stories about the selection process and if you're from the North you're more in danger of getting trampled on.
In as much as this could be true, I refuse to put this in mind. Moreso, the list of final winners would definitely come from those earlier invited for interview. If not, they had better planned the hijack well. Lol. Because ppl go dig am out.

Your name was not on the list?
I hope nothing funny happens afterwards.
Did you perform exceedingly well in your interview?

Please don't let us derail this thread about tribalism. There is competition in all respective states.

I am thinking that recommendation from the panellists have the greatest factor of being successful due to the competition.

Next month, the successful lists will be out and many people here will win it. There wont be any exception.

What people don't understand is when talking about competition strictly based on credentials, you're not competing with the bottom of the barrel or even the median in your state. You're competing with the 97th percentile and there's not much of a discernible difference across states. I've seen people with way worse credentials than mine be selected from the South. I have never come here to cry about it.

As someone had said , panel's recommendation is number 1 which is based on your interview performance and convincing power.

The grades are used to select out the final list from the number of recommended candidates.

Your chosen course is also important, any course that you can do the program here in Nigeria no need for overseas.

Dress formally, but not really carries marks because not all candidates wear jackets.
.

*Any course that you can do the program here in Nigeria not need for overseas* This is not a fact. Mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and electrical engineering, you can do them in Nigeria yet I have seen PTDF scholars in these fields of engineering.

People will just wake up and begin to push a non-existent quota system, brazenly displaying their ignorance of the scheme.

For the umpteenth time, there's nothing like quota system consideration or FCC consideration for PTDF, every individual is competing against people from their states, every state is usually allotted 4 slots for MSC with an additional 2 for Oil producing states.

Kindly leave out the North when pushing your divisive agenda and focus on your performance and that of selected persons from your state; because you have never travelled doesn't mean you're the only educated individual in the world, a humble visit to the Abuja center will deliver you of your ignorance, because some Northerners are even way smarter, intelligent and sound than any of the persons you know from your state, but awon oloshi will not allow you to reason clearly.

About competition in states...

A staff who was among the panel said a particular state in South East is the most competitive in Nigeria, but I don't want to mention it. Generally, the South is usually more competitive than the North. We've all been seeing the cut off scores for unity schools in Nigeria, or states with best WAEC results.

This published list has humbled me, ahswear shocked shocked

Generally, lecturers going for PhD are encouraged to apply through Tetfund. Else if you allow them they'll pack their published journals and grab all the points grin
I guess that's why just one published journal is needed. IMHO.

This year, I think Publications and Professional Membership certifications are interchangeable for the MSc applicants and it is limited to maximum of 5. You will notice that when you are on that section of the PTDF portal, both publications and professional certifications are listed in the same input field but you can't add more than 5. Hence, I am thinking 5 publications or 5 professional certifications or a combination of both will still amount to the same maximum mark. Thus publications may not be needed if you already have 5 professional certifications and vice versa. However, for the PhD, I think publications is a must while certifications may not be as important.

Not an accurate judgement.
We have most courses in this country. Take for instance a single course like Chemistry.
But my dear, you can't beat the exposures and state of the art learning facility and labs that studying abroad will give you.
For instance, I know someone that did software engineering in masters in a public institution here in Nigeria, they never wrote a single code.

Meanwhile, from my observation, I think Imo is the most competitive state and Taraba or so with about 12 candidates is the least competitive. (Only MSC UK)

Most centers didn't even ask for publications period and only considered Memberships for MSc. Here's my theory; if 10 marks were earmarked for memberships and 5 for publications, centers that only considered memberships weighed each membership as 3 marks as opposed to 2 where as centers that considered both used the original formula where each publication carried 1 mark and each membership 2 marks.
Re: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by DMainMan: 1:29pm On Jun 04, 2022
Another reason why there is greater competition this year than in previous years is due to the advent of virtual interviews and multiple centres.

During my set, PhD candidates who participated in the interview were smaller compared to now because Abuja was the only centre of the interview and it was physical.

The above factors alone had eliminated 50% of the applicants. All those residing abroad didn't partake due to the absence of virtual interviews. Moreso, those residing in Nigeria didn't want to travel to Abuja due to insecurity issues and distance. Only those who really need the scholarship travelled to Abuja and many people I met there got the scholarship as there were fewer candidates.

However, now, the competition is high because those who were born and residing abroad permanently partook in these scholarships via virtual interviews. I even told someone to leave this opportunity to poor Nigerians who are striving to make things better for their families with this opportunity. This guy is a British citizen but has a Nigerian passport and did backdoor NYSC. He will most likely win the scholarship because his GCSE is A asterisk, First degree is First class and Masters is Distinction. Don't be surprised you will see many people with different accents in the Tower by August. It is very easy to get First Class and Distinction abroad than in Nigeria.

I think this scholarship should be mandated for only Nigerians residing in Nigeria permanently so the poor who have no other means and are intelligent will benefit. The essence of PTDF scholarship is to develop Nigeria. Those living abroad permanently don't even know about Nigeria (only did NYSC through the backdoor for one week) and will never come back to develop Nigeria. Some of them even deny being Nigerians because of their newly acquired overseas passport but now what to benefit from the masses. PTDF should change this policy in the future.

And mind you, the last one, those awarded per state were doubled because of the impact of COVID-19 which affected adverts for 2021, which meant Delta got 12MSCs and I think 6 abi 8PHDs.

Na MSc you be bros abi PhD?

It's 8 MScs, 4 PhDs.

Not really. A lot of middle eastern countries for instance are more developed than Indian subcontinent countries like Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. Based on my experience you can't even begin to compare the intelligence of these demographics at all. Furthermore, literacy is different from intelligence. There are a lot of regions in Nigeria that were historically more developed than other regions in Nigeria before falling behind because of missing the train on modern education in the 20th century. It will surprise so many people here to know that from a historical perspective Borno was by far the most advanced and literate society in Nigeria up until the end of the 19th century. This is not an issue you can make a blanket statement on. Literacy is not intelligence.
