An explosion on Sunday rocked St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to sources, the explosion on the church grounds killed several people and injured many more.

An eyewitness Kehinde Ogunkorode, said the incident caused chaos in the vicinity, with residents fleeing for safety after being caught off guard.

Another source said it was some herdsmen that allegedly attacked the church and killed worshippers.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said the command was yet to ascertain the cause the incident hence reports are still sketchy.

Owo is the hometown of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
