Nigerian banks and bankers are criminals. Can you imagine i received a text today that they've automatically renewed my ATM card, a physical card that expired since 2019, and I should call them to cancel if i don't want it.
A bank that you can't reach even if you're standing in front of a teller. Mad people

LondonDating:

1. Don't claim benefits you are not entitled to from the Govt as it may take 25 years to find out but they probably will and even if they don't you don't want to make a habit of taking what you are not entitled to.

2. Always pay your taxes as tax evasion carries a 5 year prison sentence.

3. The less the number of Nigerian friends you have the better for you.

4. Save, save and save to get a deposit to buy your own house (Mortgage) as all rent is waste and your propert(ies) will serve as a good source of pension and wealth in future.

5. IF you ever need to flog your errant school age pikin, make sure it is on the palm.

6. Not sure if you are a man but if you are, NEVER hit a woman.

7. You can go to prison for 8 years if your wife says get up and you say wait till I finish as from the point you carry on regardless, it is called marital rape.

8. Don't drink and drive or drive withouth insurance as if you hav an accident in such circumstances, you will be jailed. Also do not drive if you have been banned from driving.

9. Don't listen to ANY Nigerian who tries to teach you ways to beat the system (e.g fiddle with your electric meter) or make easy money as any easy money comes with a greater than 50% probability that you will end up in jail.

10. If you have a son in the UK, just know that black boys are picked on by the UK educational system and learn to do your own research / tough love at home and not believe everything negative they say about your son.

Don’t blame the banks for your refusal (or inability) to read the Terms & Conditions (small prints).
The banks always, always give an option to opt out of auto-renew. It is grossly unfair to write the bolded.

Opened a French account as I was there for some time. French banks charge you for instant transfer (normal transfer takes 24 - 48h), €45/year for card maintenance, €7/quarter for account maintenance or so etc.. and it doesn't matter if you don't have funds in your account. They will throw it into debit grin

Nigerian banks are trying, please.

Is renewal fast here in the UK? I have heard of people getting delayed in London and I don't want the renewal to affect my trip in August

There is a scope to it and it’s what I did. Book any available date you see on the dvla website and download an app called “testi”. You pay a one time in-app fee of like £10, can't rem the exact figure. Any time there is a cancellation, it notifies you and you pick the date. Even if you fail your test, it will still be active until you pass.

My first booking was Oct 31st, now my test is in July. If I want to do a test tomorrow or anytime before my chosen date in July, I can because there are always cancellations. I chose July because that's when I feel I will be ready grin Thanks to Testi

If you have a Nigerian passport, you need a visa to visit the Republic of Ireland.

Credit scores aren't much of a determinant for anything don't worry too much about the fluctuating scores, it will settle with time.
The fact that both the elite and plebs make deliberate effort to boost credit score should be enough evidence that they are determinants for somethings.
You might not be able to get contracts like phone/sim contract with poor credit score.
Many landlords won't rent to you if your credit score is low even when you have plenty money.
Mortgage and car loan interests are lower with good credit score.

Good evening house, just need clarity on an issue.
So basically, I’m in the process of changing apartments and I did go for a viewing. They took my details and Missus’ own and ask about our pay and stuff.
Fast forward to earlier this week, they asked for ID’s and proof of address and details of employer & landlord details. My current landlord I think he replied to their email and same as my COO at work.
Afterwards they asked for employment contract and last 3 months payslip and I sent that as well.
Got another email hours back saying they needed to see last 3 months account statement showing salary being paid. Had to drop a mail for my bank asking if they can send that to my address because Monzo allows me to either generate for June or all time statement.
Told Missus about it and she’s not a fan of being pushed around that much and she told me these requests are really off. I felt that way too because my current apartment, all I had to do was show proof of residency and that was it.
These new guys have ran credit checks and asked for literally everything. It’s not like I’m applying for a mortgage or something.
Has anyone moved apartments recently and is this like the new normal?
Because I can’t seem to recollect people on student visa being asked for this amount of documentation.
Ps; I’m sorry this is one hell of a long read

You are quite lucky that your current landlord didn’t asked for the exact things that this new agents are asking for. The last time I rent a property this was the norm.

They would usually asked for a month’s deposit and a months rent.

Your statement of account with the payslips showing the exact monies going into the account etc

Work contract to make sure you would be able to afford to pay for the property. Unless things have changed over the last years or so, but that’s the standard requirements.

I greet you all. Please I need your urgent assistance.

My elder sister is running an Msc course in the Uk. The course is with Internship placement and she is yet to get an internship and her deadline is June 10
Though she has an assessment centre by June 12 which she is positive about but want to get an offer letter before June 10 .

My questions are .

1. Can she do her internship remotely with any firm outside UK. especially an Audit firm in Nigeria pending the time she will get an offer in Uk?

2. What is the implication of not getting the internship before June 10? Will her course be changed to research placement. ?

3. Will this affect her student Visa ?i.e if it will require her going back to the uk immigration to process a new student visa having the narration of the changed course

Please help your sister.

Thank you

Can she work in HR??

Unfortunately, yes it is, in England at least.
Regarding renting, it is a landlord's market now, and the hurdles to jump through are legion.
There are more renters than available properties so landlords can afford to pick and choose.
Play ball, choices are limited.

What's been the exchange rate of recent?

This has always been my concern. I eventually used my USD card to withdraw Pounds today, and it was bad.

For context, I withdrew 250 quid, and 357.82 USD was debited from my account. The difference is too much.

The exchange rate was pegged at £1:$1.4088. Access fee was charged at £3.99. Then they added a "Mark Up" fee of 12.8%.

Is this a normal experience with exchanging USD to GBP via a Nigerian issuer?

Omo, na wayo be this. UBA doesn’t charge me any fees, and the FX rates I get is always very close to what’s on Google.

PS: I have only used bank ATMs, as those street ATMs carry additional fees and sometime terrible exchange rate. However, it’s always best to just use your card more for purchase and less for cash withdrawals, especially for this kinda wayo bank.

Just got the 3 contract sim. The network is terrible around here, despite checking the signals before the deal.

Was hoping to transfer my old (Lebara) number to them, but with this network ish, I might cancel the deal within the 14 days cancellation window.

What do you advise?

Ah. Not really sure. 3 network is perfect in my area, so I didn’t have to worry.

Actually the banks are in the wrong. I have written to two of my banks quoting CBN's guideline about issuance of cards without prior written consents and both banks refunded me the charges and destroyed the cards and I am saying this was in 2021.

Please refer to the CBN Guidelines for Card Issuance and Usage in Nigeria Section 47 (3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007 (as amended) sub-section 3.16 “Unsolicited cards should not be issued. Where an unsolicited card is issued and activated without the written consent of the recipient and the latter is billed for the same, or fraudulent activity occurs, the card issuer shall not only reverse the charges forthwith, but also pay a penalty, without objection to the recipient, amounting to twice the value of the charges reversed.”

3 ntwk was also poor for me when I got the contract.
I canceled the 3rd day.

I am still on Lebara £25 unlimited monthly.
The money is paining me but the only solace I have in this Lonely country is having a good unlimited ntwk provider.
If I see a good alternative contract SIM, I go jump on am sha but my advise is you cancel the 3 contract within the 14days window period

The devaluation is painful ooo.

Please, is there another means you'd advise?

Was looking for how to send to someone (an aboki exchanger) in Nigeria, who would send me Naira, then I can change to Pounds.
